Theo Thijssen was a school teacher and a writer, author of "Kees de Jongen", a famous story of an imaginative boy, imagining himself as an upper class child, full of dreams, only to see them shattered when his father falls ill and Kees has to take up the shoe maker trade and leave school.

Theo Thijssen was a schoolmaster and also a writer. He was a schoolmaster in different public schools in Amserdam. This statue was raised to honour him. This bronze sculpture was placed on a pedestal with a note “Theo Thijssen 1879-1943 Schrijver en Schoolmeester” ( writer and schoolmaster). It's located on the square of Lindengracht, near the brouwersgracht. There is a markt "Lindenmarkt" on saturdays and this statue will be under the vegetables.
