My kids (ages 18 and 11) and I took this tour in April 2023. Overall it turned out a very interesting and relaxing day. We travelled in a small group in a van. We learned a lot about water management, saw dikes and the world’s largest working steam pumping station with a private tour by a retired engineer. We visited Friesland, a province in Holland including a city with a guided tour by a guide dressed in the traditional clothes and a stop by a house of traditional local painter where we saw him paint a tray. You could buy a souvenir there but with no pressure to buy one. For lunch we had traditional Dutch pancakes with a variety of toppings and coffee/tea and juice. Please note that the tour leaves from the front of This is Holland building, so from Central Station you have to take a free ferry across. It takes only 3 minutes or so and ferries leave very frequently (like every 5 minutes). I’d say this is not a tour for families with small children. The tour is about 8 1/2 hours. However, it’s good for people who want to see more of The Netherlands, especially the countryside. A very pleasant and relaxing experience. And you are back in Amsterdam by about 4 p.m. so there is still part of afternoon and evening left for other activities. We are glad we went on this tour.

We did the 5 UNESCO HERITAGE sites tour with them. We found the services of tour company very professional and nice. The places we visited were worth exploring and very scenic as well. We recommend this tour to everyone who wants to explore nice spots beyond Amsterdam. Our guide, Mr Ynte was really passionate and knowledgeable about the local culture and area.

Amsterdam Lake District Tours is an excellent company that takes great pride in what they do. Outside of bringing you to all the big tourist destinations they take you to beautiful off the beaten track places, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Our tour was perfectly organized. We were where we needed to be right on time or early. We had local guides at every stop and Lysanne was just amazing. This tour company is highly recommended as is visiting the Friesland region in the Netherlands!

This tour provided us the opportunity to learn some of the history of The Netherlands and Friesland. The small tour was very comfortable and nicely paced. The drive north allowed us to see the beautiful countryside and to drive across the dike. The towns were charming with several hidden treasures and we were able to purchase a few handmade items. Overall, a WONDERFUL day trip. Our guide, Lysanne, was very knowledgeable and made the day very enjoyable. Cathy and Andy

This tour was a definite highlight of our vacation! Lysanne was the best tour guide answering all of our questions. We enjoyed ALL of our stops but for me especially the fabric store purchasing Dutch fabric since I’m a quilter! Thank you for a wonderful memorable day!!

A day back in time!
What a wonderful day spent alongside with Lysanne in Friesland.
We chose Amsterdam Lake District Tours because the tour seemed different and indeed it was.
After being out of Amsterdam we quickly noticed that it was only us, the locals and the beautiful landscapes. We discovered incredible places, peaceful and vibrating of history. Perfect day, from the impressive dike to the city frozen in time, through local experience with lunch at a farm. If we come back to the Netherlands for sure we want to go back to Friesland.

Definetely worth the money. Had a great day in rhe mini van with our tourguide Lisa and driver Max. Saw the hidden gems of the Amsterdam Lake District. This tour is something different. Worth doing when you choose to get off the beaten path and also wat to see some beautifull windmills in action.

My daughter and I had the pleasure of the company of Lysanne for the day as we toured through the Lake District of Friesland. The sites we had the pleasure of visiting were thoroughly charming and we were treated to each by a local guide who clearly welcomed visitors. We left the tour with a great appreciation of the history of the area. Lysanne was an engaging and knowledgeable host. Do yourself a favour and discover the charms of the Dutch countryside with this delightful tour company.

A great day out in the northern lakes district of Holland. We saw 5 Unesco sites, all different including historic villages, a defence bunker, 32 km dyke and a 100 year old steam pumping station. Max our friendly guide gave us a fascinating insight to Dutch culture & the Unesco sites. Local guides at the sites were excellent. Don’t miss this trip, it’s the best we’ve done in Holland.
