It's a hidden gem, this place. Filled with great characters, the bar staff alone are worth going for. Sit late at night at the bar and just enjoy the banter. Ignore the review below saying they are racist and dont like English: absolute nonsense. It's a punk bar. If you show them respect, they will do to you.

Good late night stop in the canal ring. It was relatively quiet when we were there. Bartender controls the music which was good. Its a punk/rock/dive bar. We ducked in out of the rain while walking by. It was a favorite spot during the trip to pop in for one last beer while in town.

Been there a few times , great bar , but on the last three occasions i have noticed that they don't like serving English people , you go in and get ignored this has happened twice , if you are English then go somewhere else so you don't line the pockets of the RACIST DUTCH BARTENDERS.

Visited on several occasions while in Amsterdam. Mainly locals, punk music, heavy smoke and Punk/Metal music - if any of these bother you - don't even step in. Anyway, this is my favorite A-Dam bar. What a great wee spot!

Fortunately we had a friend living in Amsterdam who was able to bring us to this little gem which is certainly off the beaten tourist path. There is a really strong punk atmosphere to the place which you can feel immediately from the clientele to the hundreds of left wing stickers on the walls to the dozens of pairs of... More

My friend recently moved to Amsterdam and rent a flat just upstairs of the Minds. There are two noticeable things inside - you can smoke there (I forgot the last time I did it in a public place) and there are plenty of shoes hanged under the ceiling. It's rather cheap over there, but it's probably the case for this... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
