Really great collections. Well organized bright and cheery. A place that you like to be. Most U.S. libraries should go there and then emulate it back home. Each segment make you feel like you are in a small easy to use libarary instead of a huge place which it is. The folks who work there are very pleasant and helpful.

Amsterdam's Central library is a wonderful haven a short walk from the main station. In the foyer you'll find a piano for public use and a detailed plan of each floor. The children's department is magical with towers, hiding places and 3D art including a mouse house and giant polar bear. The upper levels are dedicated to books (including an... More

This public library has an amazing collection of different kinds of works, including a huge rang of sheet music, together with a piano with headphones to study. The architecture of the place is very nice. The cafeteria is located on the top floor and has a terrace with good views of the city. It is a self-service buffet with wok,... More

A big library, a nice view from the top floor. You can have a drink there or have a bite at Vapiano, a nice Italian restaurant.

Our room wasn't ready at the Hilton Doubletree so we went to the library. Very modern building, seven floors (one that is all DVDs) and a restaurant on the top floor. They have over 600 computer terminals!

The building to me is not the best but the inside spaces are worth to see. there is an area for kids, one for worldwide magazines and newspapers and on the top floor a restaurant bar.

Located near to the busy central station, this library has more than books and peace to offer. The modern architecture, holds different floors with books in different languages, sometimes art exhibitions, the already famous free top view and there is a whole floor with children attractions. It is easy to go back to your childhood and let your imagination flow... More

The Central Library is my home from home. I pick up my books, go online, chill out, have a coffee or even a really good lunch dinner, and to top all that I can enjoy one of the best cityscapes available in the entire city - and that is totally free. Apart from the various exhibitions they have to offer... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
