I had seen reviews of this library so decided I would check it out next time I was by Central Station. I took the lift to the 7 floor, enjoyed the views, then came down on the escalators. Oh how I wish there was a facility like this close to where live.

Went to the top floor of the library for an evening meal. Lots of fresh food at reasonable prices. The pizza was lovely. A must if you want a good view of Amsterdam!

The public library of Amsterdam is an architectural gem. Let's start with that. The building itself is a must visit landmark. To go around inside you need a membership card but still you can enjoy the view, a light reading and a cup of coffee.

When my friend showed me the Amsterdam Central Library, I was amazed at the sheer size and thought I was entering an airport terminal. There are about five levels, and you can probably find any book you are looking for. There are many small study and relaxation areas, its a quiet and calm space, and its sleek design helps you... One of the most impressive libraries of Europe, pity that in the NL openbaar (public) means you actually you have to pay to make use of it. I guess it all goes to maintaining the building and the staff (or at least I hope so).

I visited following reviews, mainly to take advantage of the views from the top floor and was not disappointed. And we were completely blown away by the quality and selection of the food on offer - something for everyone inc juice/ smoothie/ salad bars, stir fry/ grill/ pizza/ pasta/ sandwiches, soup all freshly cooked at fantastic prices. Unfortunately we'd had... More

State of the art library with beautiful views of Amsterdam. Much to explore, including the design of the building itself. La Place cafeteria is on the top floor with outdoor seating.

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
