Not just a library

Beautiful building near the water, modern structures and most beautiful the view. It gives you a clear view over the canal.

Beautifully designed library that we visited mainly to have lunch at their rooftop cafeteria. Some high end food for a cafeteria, alcohol is served too and stellar outdoor rooftop views. Stayed mostly in the childrens section on the lower floor, big comfy red chairs. Kids even got to play their free public piano for the whole library to hear (good... More

7 floors, white leather sofas, Mac desktops, every book/vid/newspaper/periodical you could imagine - and that's just for starters. Eat at the top floor cafe - cheap, good, stylish food and a terrific view of Amsterdam. Oh - and did I mention the public piano in the foyer, for those "I simply must sit down and play a piano" moment. Only... More

I am embarrassed to admit that we went to the library to take advantage of the wonderful views from the top floor rather than to read or work but like other reviewers I wish that I had access to a library such as this. The library itself is quiet and peaceful and a wonderful escape from the busy city. On... More

The library itself is a great place to work: quiet and with internet. The top floor gives a good view of the skyline of the city center.

Wish we had libraries like this. Imagine, books in every language, quiet spaces, access to computers, free exhibitions, lovely bar and a cafe with the best views. Get along there for free. Even on a Sunday!

It is really quite lace, so it is good to rest there, You can even sleep in the armchair. There a piano, and you have a good chance to hear as somebody plays. You can it (last floor here a la palin restarurant - it is good), after that, you can go on the terrace to see the view. You... More

Our group of 6 people from Toronto, Canada was there at the end of April, 2016. Their food selection was excellent and healthy. We had very tasty 'make your own salad' and very tasty chicken. We ate on the 7th floor, where you can get spectacular views of the city. Prices were more than reasonable as well.

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
