It is really quite lace, so it is good to rest there, You can even sleep in the armchair. There a piano, and you have a good chance to hear as somebody plays. You can it (last floor here a la palin restarurant - it is good), after that, you can go on the terrace to see the view. You... More

Our group of 6 people from Toronto, Canada was there at the end of April, 2016. Their food selection was excellent and healthy. We had very tasty 'make your own salad' and very tasty chicken. We ate on the 7th floor, where you can get spectacular views of the city. Prices were more than reasonable as well.

The perfect place for introverted solo travellers - one can coszy up with a book while enjoying the picteresque view on the historical centre of Amsterdam. The place to miss student times.

The central library is a massive building with multiple exhibits on the architecture and the health focus of the city strewn between its traditional bookshelves. It's also free entry and has a brilliant fresh food cafe (almost a market!) on the top floor with high views of the city. We spent a good few hours here in the top floor... More

This main library of Amsterdam is very much worth the visit, if only for the interior design. But of course the amount of books, when looking for a certain subject, is very attractive.

If you have the time , go and take a walk to the library. It is a great place for some quiet time and there is a La Place on top of it. There is an amazing view from there to the city. It's a must if you want to get a birds eye view.

Though I'm a book-lover I'm not a speaker of Dutch, so I couldn't sit down to enjoy the books, however the views of the city from the top floor cafe were amazing.

Its a library that does not compare well with those of London, Oxford or more recently Birmingham. The café is not particularly good either. The view is worthwhile because just about everywhere else in Amsterdam is flat. Main appeal is that it is free!

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
