About
Let a tour of GASSAN Diamonds be the sparkeling highlight of your trip to Amsterdam! GASSAN Diamonds, is located in a beautiful restored originally steam driven diamond factory and was built in 1879. Every year more than 350.000 visitors experience a unique tour through the industrial factory. Visitors can view the diamond polishers at their craft, while multilingual guides explain where diamonds are found and how rough diamonds turn into dazzling brilliants. Loose polished diamonds are shown as well as an elaborate jewelry collection. After the tour you can see our extensive jewelry and watch collection in our Boutique. Also have a look in our in-house Rolex Boutique. For over 400 years diamond polishers have perfected the art of giving maximum life to the brilliant cut diamond. At GASSAN Diamonds this tradition is being continued and we are proud to introduce a breathtaking and worldwide patented cut: GASSAN 121, with one hundred and twenty one facets.

Neighborhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

    ‘Brilliant’ tour (excuse the pun!)
Well worth the journey across the city to reach the Gassan tour. Extremely well organised and professional. The best collection of diamonds and watches I’ve seen in one place. If I was to buy diamond jewellery I would certainly buy from there

The visit to Gassan is, at its heart, a sales presentation. It begins with a very brief introduction about the history of diamonds from carbon to gems followed immediately by a showing of individual stones, all meant to highlight the uniqueness of Gassan’s special diamond cut. For good measure, they pull out reasonably priced watches, rings of various types and prices, and earrings and necklaces. If you’re interested in the history of Gassan and of diamond cutting, you’re on your own to view the graphics on the walls and the vintage equipment on display. It’s informative and interesting (and totally free) but, for a firm that sells high-end gems and jewelry in a country that is bilingual in Dutch and English, you’d think they could afford a proofreader for their English text.

Short and informative - good for a free tour!
This was a free tour and is worth doing. It was relatively short but interesting. First you go into a short exhibition and can see a diamond polisher at work. Then you get taken into a side room and are shown various examples of diamonds up close, and some finished pieces. I didn’t feel any pressure to buy anything.

    Very educational.
This was a lovely tour on everything you wanted to know about diamonds. The young man who conducted our tour was very knowledgeable. He taught us everything one would want to know about diamonds. The items for sale were pretty and seemed well priced.

We went on a tour of Gassan Diamonds as part of the City Sightseeing hop on hop off bus tour. Waiting area with free tea and coffee and restrooms. There were 10 of us in our group, we were told about grading and polishing of diamonds, we were shown some individual diamonds and told about them and their value. Lots of areas to walk around and to purchase

Great tour, amazing place to visit.
Great tour with a very knowledgeable lady who presented very well. Amazing diamonds, jewellery and watches on display and available for purchase. We seen the same jewellery for sale at the airport but was more expensive than the factory prices so we'll worth buying from here.

We went for this free tour. Basically you see a person cutting a diamond, have a look at some jewellery and are then taken into a room where they don a sales pitch. Then they say are there any questions, if you say no then you are basically told to leave. Surprisingly they td.us that they had sold 2 of a particular ring costing a few 1000 euros that day. We dismt beleive that.
Dont really waste a half hour of your life here.

You walk in. Get told the tour is free, wonderful. You are met by a host (we had a lady) who shows you how the cut diamonds. They let you look around for a minute then usher you into a room with a semicircle table and stills. Shut the door behind you (with metal enforced glass) and proceed to try and sell you all manner of jewelry. When they ask if you would like anything and you say no you are basically shown the door. Don’t waste your time in what you could see on a YouTube video. Way too much of a sales pitch. Best part was the free coffee in the shop at the end

Waste of time. Made you feel like you were wasting their precious time. Got off the “hop on off” tour bus. No signage at front of building to say entrance. No signage or seating in foyer to give any info about the tour. Lady on reception on phone most of time and looked down her nose at us as she slid out tour stickers from behind her glass wall. Had to stand Watford 25 minutes - I ended up soo on some stairs. Tour guide late. So disinterested. Spoke English but heavy accent. Had to tell her to speak up even though there was only 4 on the tour. Some other folk got fed up waiting for your to start and left. Wish we had left with them! Guide talked us through a video, told us to wander round an exhibition area of old diamond cutting tools etc and then left! Disappeard actually. She had mentioned a second leg of the tour but she never came back. We went looking for her to no avail so we just left. Yes it’s free but don’t waste your time. They are not interested in you if you are not buying!
PS The only highlight for us was the lovely chap cutting the diamonds. We had a lovely chat with him. They should struck off the tour route.

In November 2020 I brought a vintage gold Vacheron & Constantin watch for repair to the Gassan shop. After a few weeks I received a form from Gassan indicating with a few keywords that the watch was damaged, completely rusted and in part not original. The total repair by V & C Switzerland would cost me € 12,480.
I reacted to Gassan that the watch had already had an expensive complete review by V & C about 5 years earlier, which had cost me more than € 7,000. So I asked for it to be returned to me.
Having received the watch back I brought it to a local expert, who declared that the the balance shaft was indeed somewhat rusty. Furthermore 2 parts and the glass needed to be replaced. The total repair would cost me € 865. I agreed to that repair.
The staff and the management of Gassan I spoke to were very civil towards me.
However they kept replying that they do not feel responsible for the situation, since for repairs they act as a mere go-between for V & C, without opening the watch.
I conclude that when things go wrong Gassan sticks to defending its own interests.

Even if I was not there to buy diamonds or take a tour, I personally had a great experience and the service, a high class one.

I made an appointment in order to fix my engagement ring. It was unbelievable that they managed to schedule me in less than 30 minutes from when I made the call. I think they could feel how desperate I was when I made the phone call haha

Isa was my lovely attendant, to whom I cannot thank enough. He calmed me down first of all, and helped me with the reparations and everything. Most important, even though it was no diamond ring or whatever, they still offered a warm welcome and a high class service.
Moreover, reparation cost, polishing and everything was only 20 euros, and I bet that somewhere else it would’ve been double.

Thank you once more, Isa! And to the team as well!

You get your own group tour guide and are certainly not rushed considering this is a free tour. Really informative and lots of great diamonds and diamond related artefacts on show. You are also taken into a separate room and learn all about the four Cs and how diamonds are priced. You are shown some beautiful examples. There is a shop there too if you fancy treating yourself but there is never any pressure to go into the shop or purchase anything.
The City Sightseeing Hop on Hop off bus stops right outside, so easy to get to if you are also doing the bus tour.
Highly recommended.

I am a true Amsterdammer and my experience at Gassan Diamonds was exemplary! I enjoyed learning more about our city’s history as (together with Antwerp) the ‘diamond capital of the world’ for centuries, and I love the fact that Gassan is still a family-run company into the fourth generation. The Gassan 121 cut is absolutely magnificent—if you see one next to a traditional 57-faceted brilliant-cut diamond of the same quality you will be immediately sold—they are truly more brilliant than brilliant! Deyanira, my guide and assistant in choosing an amazing gem, was extremely charming and patient as I took my time choosing the exact stone that was right for me. Not for tourists only!

Shock dimond ring they sold me which I purchased costing me a fortune for rubish really. I purchased it while on holiday for a couple of days. The ring constantly ruined My clothes as it catchs pulling threads to whatever I wear a huge disapoint. I book a return holiday a year later and returned the ring which they agreed one of the claws needed attention and they supposedly sorted the problem only for me to experience the same problem the following day. What a dreadful place to purchased rings from extremely disapointed out of pocket with a ring I can not ware never purchase from this place

The most terrible customer service I have encountered . Booked a time for the “tour” the guide was rude , uninterested and did not answer our questions. We had full intention to buy something nice but he treated all of us as children or people who did not knew anything about diamonds . Questions we had during the tour were ignored . The prices of the diamonds were much much higher than elsewhere, what a waste of our time .
