Neighborhood: Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

Huge disappointment. I knew that the jewels on display were rightly reproductions, but what I didn't imagine was that they were also poorly made, very poor quality costume jewellery, don't be fooled by the images, the most interesting things are the tennis racket with the ball and some work equipment. It's very small, there aren't many things to see, you finish the tour and you're like "that's all?" I recommend not taking it into consideration and spending that time and money on something more interesting, I wouldn't go back even if it were free.

Children play a game the "Diamant Heist". If they manage to avoid the laser beams, they can grab the diamond and receive a QR code. With that code they can pick up a present in the museum shop.
So no...... there is no present for the children......The only thing is a 10% discount for adults on purchases in the museum shop
That is very bad, it is not about the value of something like that, but the fact that it is offered and then there is nothing at all, that is simply shameful for such a museum and shows contempt for the visitor.

The diamond museum is purely a vanity project for Coster Diamonds. There is little information you can’t already find out by researching into diamonds (and your own research will be more comprehensive!), the initial video is extremely dated and for a diamond museum there are very few actual diamonds.
It’s understandable that there aren’t going to be famous diamonds there, but even the replicas of them could have been made from moissanite or better quality cubic zirconia.
The ‘crown’ room is just full of vintage costume headpieces and tiaras which are obviously base metal and rhinestones and can be found aplenty online. The only ‘diamonds’ - if you believe them! - are ones they’ve stuck onto items like a skull (a la Damien Hirst) and set into a replica of a Van Gogh.
Even the museum shop is purely their own showroom for jewellery with a couple of other touristy bits instead of offering anything related to the history of diamonds.
Apparently there is a free tour in one of their workshops next door - we didn’t do it as we were so disillusioned with the ‘museum’ but I would highly suggest going there and saving you money.

Very nice museum about diamonds!
Here the Dutch history of diamonds is described, of how important the country has become for the processing and sale of these jewels.
Most diamonds are replicas.
The interactive game that you can try in a room of the museum is very nice: some lasers protect a jewel that you have to reach without triggering the alarm! To feel like a real Lupine or Cat's Eye!
Free with the I Amsterdam Card. With the same ticket you can visit the workshop next door, where diamonds are produced and sold.

Dutch people are masters in making museums. You get here just the necessary of history, just enough of crafting and just enough of shining. Joyful and relaxed approach of the creators that gives you knowledge and pleasure during all the visit. Very much recomended in case you are tired of paintings but still want to experience the flavor of Amsterdam.

Diamant Museum was included in my I Amsterdam card, so I headed there and also explored the factory and store of the Royal Coster Diamonds, the company, which serves the monarchs of the world. I learned about the grueling labor on the diamonds excavation sites, the rough diamonds trade (mostly, in Antwerp), and about cutting rough diamonds of superb color and clarity adding up to 201 facets to the precious stone; the latter happens in Amsterdam and at the Royal Coster Diamonds in particular. Fascinating visit and something I had missed on my first trip to Amsterdam.

Very limited exhibition. Badly made fake items!
I went with my 2 kids, one of them on a baby stroller. The bored receptionist said that if I want to use the elevator, I have to call him every time I want to change floors. 😂

Dear Travel818330,
Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that the museum was not what you expected it to be. Besides many real objects and diamonds, there are indeed many replicas. The reason for this is that many famous crowns and diamonds are owned by royals. Unfortunately, they hardly ever loan these objects - not even to museums. About the problem with the lift. Due to the limitations of the 19th-century building we are in, the lift can only be operated by our staff. We apologise for any inconvenience. We are glad you shared your feedback with us. We will use it in the process of improving our museum.
Kind regards,
Team Diamond Museum Amsterdam

Very tourist-y, but worth a visit if you're interested in diamond.
Current exhibition "Diamond Heist" was really fun. The movie in the beginning is really helpful and good too.
However, don't expect to see a load of real diamonds here, most of the collection is a replica. We've been told that the other place (which is included freely with a ticket to the Diamond Museum), has the "real" collection. Bit of a bummer, but oh well. We learned a lot about diamonds, which was in line with our expectations. It is a unique museum which I have never experienced before.
Staff was very friendly. Would recommend this museum, so go there, although maybe adjust your expectations :)

Dear Omar V,
Thank you for rating and recommending us. Great to hear that you liked the Diamond Heist and that you learned a lot about diamonds. It is indeed true that part of the collection in the museum consists of replicas. Many famous crown jewels, diamonds and jewels are not lent out to museums. The unique replicas that are on display in our exhibition were made especially for our museum so that we can still show them to the public. We'll pass your nice compliments on to our staff and we hope to welcome you again one day.
Kind regards,
Team Diamond Museum Amsterdam

Wonderful place! We are familiar with one of Amsterdam’s leading sites for stoning diamonds, the world centre of this activity. In addition, since our arrival, we were very well received by a friendly staff member of the museum store and his Chilean colleague. He indicated us the visit to the factory, in the next building, also very interesting, where, also by his indication, we were received in our native language by a Brazilian employee.

Enjoyed a nice short visit to the Diamond Museum. Very interesting displays on industry history and how diamonds are made, and cut/polished. Section with replicas of famous diamonds or crowns as well. If you like diamonds and are interested in their history, this is a nice stop. Conveniently located in between the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum.
