Amsterdam's Jewish Quarter Small-Group Walking Tour

1,172 reviews
This tour makes it super easy to pack in a little daytime history in between exploring Amsterdam’s vibrant nightlife. Even if you’re planning on visiting the Anne Frank House separately on your own, this tour follows her path through the city’s the Jewish Quarter with a guide who’s well brushed up on his WWII history.

We highly recommend a visit to Sloterplas as it's an amazing and relaxing place where lots of people gather to spend time together, practice sports or simply to walk around the lake. The whole loop around the lake is quite long and can take more than a hour. We suggest to reach the boat rental on the eastern bank to rent a kayak or a boat and sail along the canals and in the middle of the lake. The surrounding area offers lots of cafes and restaurants and is linked with the city center by public means (around 20-30 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal).

I loved living near the Sloterplas during my year in Amsterdam. It is a fantastic place for a bike ride, a run, or a walk. Furthermore, there are calisthenics parks along the trail, which I visited frequently. I believe there are some kids' playgrounds nearby as well.

After several years not visiting this area, we had a short walk near the lake last week. A lot of tulips along the lake. It was a beautiful day and saw some water birds feeding the chick. Nice place to have a walk.

We walked through the large park which practically surrounds Sloterplas, several times during our week-long stay in Amsterdam, as our hotel was almost next to it, at the southern end. We loved walking through as it was peaceful and quiet. There were a few other people around, at least during the early hours of the day we went by. There are quite a few features which make the area attractive. Lots of space, lots of water and panoramic water views, children's playgrounds, areas for personal training, picnic grounds, numerous cycle paths and much more.

We just happened to discover this amazing place while cycling around. Right next to the sloterpark, this is a great place to head for on a hot sunny day. One huge lake. On one side is a made up beach if you want the seaside feel and all around the rest of it is grass. If you don’t want sand (or a crowded beach) the grassy perimeter is perfect for sunbathing and easy to jump in from for an inviting dip. Beware though not so easy to get out. It is skirted with quite rough concrete and no feet holds so unless you have strong upper body muscles you are likely to cut yourself climbing out. There are metal steps periodically so be sure to jump in near one of those to make it a lot easier and more enjoyable to get out again.
