A true highlight of our trip! On our journey home to the US after 2.5 weeks in Croatia, we had a 20 hour layover in Amsterdam. From the first communication to the moment PJ put us on the train to the airport, the experience was amazing! We are not used to the cycling and canal boating culture of Amsterdam so each element provided adventure for us while highlighting the beautiful city.
Before our visit, PJ and Juliette worked diligently to create the perfect itinerary to accommodate our family of 5 with kids ages 7-12. During our layover, we spent approximately 9 hours touring with the rest sleeping and transiting. It was perfect. We cycled, we boated the canals, we ate delicious things, we visited significant sites (including the Anne Frank Museum), and we learned so much in our short time.
We hope to see PJ and Juliette again on a future visit or maybe our paths will cross on a future adventure! Don't miss out on this opportunity!

PJ lives like real Amsterdamer next to a canal. So he knows all the amazing local spots in the city that tourists might not get to. We had a boat tour with him in Amsterdam for few hours and felt like locals. He is very easy going and helpful person. He directly made us feel comfortable and relaxed so we could enjoy the beauty Amsterdam has to offer. His tour is highly recommended!

It was an amazing and efficient 7 hours trip to Amsterdam with PJ and Juliette. It was perfectly customized trip that included points of my interest (Van Gogh Museum only) and all additions from them. I appreciate letting me borrow your bicycle. It didn’t feel like I was meeting someone from website but you guys made me feel like I was visiting friends. Also, PJ handled the trip with very good planning and time management. I would definitely recommend LocalLayover.com to visitors out there and reach out to you next time when I am visiting. Special thanks to Juliette for sharing the tea and chocolate with me, and you don’t forget the grocery bags in the boat next time. You guys rock!

PJ and Juliette had our 4.5hr layover in Amsterdam planned down to the minute and it was perfection!

They met us at the airport right outside of customs with train passes in hand. A quick train ride with explanation of our bike trip and we were off! They did a great job in explaining the most popular locations and things to see. PJ did an excellent job at capturing action video and pictures while ON the bikes and Juliette was the camera pro with still shots. Not only did we enjoy the bike ride, but they took us on their boat to give a different view of the city.

PJ was sure to keep track of our flights while on the tour and even walked us past the train and to security to board our flights. All of this door-to-door service saved us precious time to fully enable us to make the most of our short time in this beautiful city.

The tour was quick, informative and enjoyable but the bonus of their fun & outgoing personalities was icing on the cake! Highly recommend doing a tour with them!!!

I thought I would have to spend 9 hours at the airport between my flights but what a catch to find the website of Peter-Jan. PJ answered me in an hour about the availability (beginning of September 2018) and he gave me a possible itinerary that we could do. When I read it, I couldn't wait to meet him in person and to discover all the places that he talked about in the email. I had never been to Europe before but Amsterdam was even more beautiful than I expected. I didn't have to take care about anything before my flight (train tickets, itinerary, good restaurants, time schedule) and this is exactly why I liked this tour that much. PJ was even updating me about the time that I would have to wait at the security check so I had no worries about missing my next flight.
I would highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in having the most amazing layover in life!

My boyfriend & I had a 4 to 5 hour layover in Amsterdam (from LAX to Zurich). I googled “what to do with few hours in Amsterdam” & was lucky to find this site. My BF, who had no idea I planned this, was quite surprised when Peter picked us up at the airport & had a sign with our names. With limited time, we managed to do almost everything on the schedule. It included train, bike & boat. Along the way, he’d give a little history or explanation of sites. He answered all of our silly questions, from transportation to prostitution. When time was short, he gave us options so we could choose to either speed through something or skip it all together. Best part was the boat ride! We enjoyed the stroopwaffle dessert, too. Peter is trustworthy & flexible. He'll make sure you get to your plane with time to spare. Only thing we never got was the polaraoid pic on the list, but maybe we misunderstood. Nonetheless, Amsterdam, it’s people, & the city itself -> charming! It was a memorable experience; loved every moment of the local layover tour.

I got into to Amsterdam at 11pm and PJ met me at the airport. From the instant I met him I felt completely comfortable. It was like I had rented a best friend for the night. We took the train to go pick up our bikes and we were on our way. It was a Saturday night and PACKED with people milling around the streets. We hit the Red Light District, a coffee house, Anne Frank's house, public squares, saw amazing statues...I mean...I could write a novel. We covered some ground. And then we went for the most amazing boat ride through the canals. There was a full moon and no wind. It was like riding through the city on a mirror. And we were the only boat on the water in all of Amsterdam. There was not one other boat out. I'm not sure what one should charge for an experience like this but I'm positive I got a bargain. And then he had a treat for me on the boat! A Stroopwafel! These little treats are a life-changing experience. So good.

I could have spent the night crouched up in a dirty corner of the Schipol Airport waiting for my flight the next morning and I'm so grateful PJ offered this amazing night instead.

If you want to see the city of Amsterdam through an amazing local's perspective, you will not do any wrong booking a tour with PJ. He is one of the most helpful, enthusiastic and organized guides I've found travelling over the world. He is knowledgeable about every detail in the city and knows just the best spots that I probably would not have found alone. With limited amount of time in the city, you will be delighted to discover how much you can learn and enjoy in this charming city walking, biking or a boat with PJ! Thank you for making my short layover in Amsterdam such a memorable experience!

Wow! Never have I experienced a layover like this. I was lucky to find this website and book a tour. Within a few hours of booking PJ sent an email of a possible itinerary and had very clear instructions on how to exit the airport and meet him. As I exited customs he was waiting with a sign with my name on it . He handled everything from there. I never felt concerned about where we were going or what to do. Throughout our 5 hours together he regularly updated me on the status of my flight and the wait time of the security line.
I haven't been on a bike in a long time and so I was nervous about biking around the city, but it was easy and wonderful. We saw special sites and places that only a local would know about. PJ made sure I saw everything I wanted to. He gave great insight and history of the places we saw. The highlight of the tour was the canal ride on PJ’s boat. Seeing the city like a local does. We headed back to the airport and PJ escorted me directly to the correct security gate. I didn’t have to worry about navigating the very busy airport by myself.

What a beautiful day and way to really see Amsterdam from a local viewpoint!

I really can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed this tour. It was a 5 out of 5 star experience. I can't eait to go back and do another longer tour. I recommend this experience without a single reservation.

Peter received us with very short notice (less than 24 hours) but anyway he did his best to acomódate our 6 hours layover in Amsterdam. We were a family of 4. From the airport we took the train to the city, and from there we visited by bicycle the main attractions. At the end and before coming back to the airport we made a boat trip around the canals that my sons enjoyed very much. He treated us like long time friends, and our sons that are kind of shy easily connected with Peter and they had lots of fun. Peter is very patient with children. Highly recommended for families.

Thank you so much, helps me big time!!
