About
Hello, I’m Dennis and I love my city. I’ve always believed Amsterdam has so much more to offer than what the guidebooks tell you. But as a visitor, it’s all too easy to get caught up in the highlights and miss out on having an authentic Amsterdam experience. That’s why I’m passionate about showing you my city from a truly local perspective. Think of my tours like discovering the city with a friend; I’ll gladly share all my favourite routes and hangouts with you while letting you in on a bit of Dutch history and culture too. Above all, I enjoy getting to know you better so that we can explore all the places that really spark your interest. I believe a tour is a great way to get a feel for a new place, which is why I recommend meeting on one of your first days in the city. This will enable me to respond to all of your requests and give you enough time to make the most of new discoveries as well as my suggestions for more things to see and do while you’re here.

We had an outstanding 4 days touring Amsterdam (and beyond) with Dennis as our private guide. Leading up to the trip, my wife and I found Dennis to be outstanding with communication- we were able to converse initially by email, but also by What’s App, text, and video chat. This made us feel very comfortable heading into our trip, trusting our trip and our safety to a virtual stranger. His English is flawless.

My wife and gave him a few parameters that we like- craft beer, good food, museums (but only for a short trip), walking, and generally things that locals would do. Dennis arranged this into a 4-day itinerary with these items but also other “can’t miss” things.

We hit the ground running. On our first day, Dennis arranged for a rental car which he drove us throughout the countryside, through small towns with dikes, windmills, churches, and a great lunch restaurant. We ended the day at Keukenhof Gardens seeing the tulips, going at the time Dennis suggested to maximize our experience and minimize the tour bus crowds.

The next day, we spent time at the Van Gogh museum, had a perfect lunch in the VondelPark, followed by visit to the Rijksmuseum. A little shopping on the upscale Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat, and we had an excellent day. Dennis arranged for us to have dinner at a wonderful, local Dutch restaurant that was not only outstanding, but reasonably priced. Dennis secured us tickets for these museums and the Anne Frank House, which he allowed us the privacy to have this moving experience by ourselves.

We spent the other two days walking through areas less frequented by tourists, balancing history, architecture, and other local sites with good food and shopping. We saw how locals shopped at local food markets and food halls. Dennis arranged/joined us on a private canal tour where we brought food and drinks aboard as we saw this magical city from the canals.

My wife and I have traveled to many locations where we have used private local guides to ensure we get the most out of our limited time. Dennis was easily the best guide we have used, and we cannot wait for our return trip to Amsterdam so Dennis can continue to show us more of the Netherlands like a local would want to see.

We had an excellent 5 hour tour with Dennis, including a 2 hour canal boat tour he arranged for the three of us with a top notch captain. Our request was to see the neighborhoods of Amsterdam, and Dennis made that happen. He made sure we saw the best of Amsterdam from the water and the streets, and continuously shared his knowledge of the architecture and culture of the city. We had the option with our cruise for a similar tour with 24 people, for just about the same $$! A personal tour with Dennis surpassed that kind of group tour. He made several recommendations for restaurants while we were visiting, and we used 3 of them ... all top notch. Thanks for sharing your city with us, Dennis!

Where do I begin…this was a rescheduled Covid trip that we previously booked with Dennis. We found his name in Rick Steve’s Amsterdam book. When we could finally rebook our postponed trip, Dennis impeccably had all the details from 2 years before. We spent 3 full days touring with him and I can honestly say, it made all the difference in the world. The first day, we did the Anne Frank house and Riks museum on our own. On day 2, we did a portion of the city with Dennis and a wonderful canal cruise. Day 3, he took us by car out to the beautiful countryside to see adorable towns, the water, tulips, and windmills. Day 3, we did other parts of the city with Dennis.
I can honestly say…we gained so much knowledge and appreciation touring with Dennis! Even though the weather didn’t always cooperate, he wanted to make the best of every moment. Highly recommend touring with Dennis, sharing his passion for his city, and getting an invaluable view of a local!

Dennis was our guide for three days in Amsterdam prior to our river cruise embarkation. We mutually agreed on an itinerary way ahead of time, but it still was very flexible if we wanted to change things. On day one we got to know the city neighborhoods in depth including culture, architecture, history and even how to avoid getting tangled up with the bicycles! In the afternoon we took a leisurely boat ride on a nice sunny day.

On day 2 we visited the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and other sites in the area and had a nice Dutch lunch. On day three we drove out of the city to the Hoge Veluwe National Park and the Kroller-Muller Museum. After lunch we took a leisurely drive back and took in all the country side scenery.

Dennis is an exceptional person, always tuned in to his guests needs, whether it be walking pace, rest stops, points of interest, or details about where you eat that evening. When we return to Amsterdam, we will check on Dennis's availability before we book flights!

It was a super experience to get introduced to many small places where you can taste the city. Having Dennis to show us around was luxurious. He knows where to find the fresh taste. It was like a menue to go and I found perfect gifts to bring home.
I can highly recommend to book a food tour if you want to get a taste of Amsterdam culture. Besides the places we went together, Dennis gave us advises where to find other places that suit our taste.
I loved cycling around - feeling and tasting Amsterdam! Dennis is a welcoming and emphatic man and it was a pleasure to spend time!
Dennis loves his city and invites his guests to get a taste...Highly recommend!

This was our first visit to the Netherlands and we weren’t sure where to start. We contacted Dennis who met with us via Zoom and outlined several possibilities but emphasized he could personalize the tour to fit our needs - - AND HE DID. He is full of positive energy for the beautiful city of Amsterdam and was able to lead us to quiet neighborhoods on beautiful canals. He introduced us to the history of several areas and responded fluidly to requests to get sidetracked occasionally. We ended our day with a private canal cruise and had a surprise floating musician serenade us with anniversary best wishes. Dennis gave us just what we needed, a taste of Amsterdam and armed with his advice we were able to enjoy the rest of our days on our own. I must add that we are not wealthy people and we were traveling with another couple. The four of us had Dennis for the whole day and a private canal cruise plus a great deal of useful advice for a very reasonable price.

Dennis was a fantastic tour guide! He showed us round his city for 3 hours, including helping my mum who is not super confident on a bike. Dennis is extremely personable and has loads of interesting stories about Amsterdam. He took us to places off the beaten track and we really got a sense for the 'locals' Amsterdam. His tour was completely personalised and when we wanted to change the plan at a moment's notice he was totally unphased.

My partner and I have recently moved here from the UK and, as well as showing my mum and sister around, we wanted to get to know more about our new home. Dennis was a perfect fit - he has so many great recommendations of cafés and restaurants and places to go. A week later went to eat at a café he recommended and it was honestly INCREDIBLE!!! Can't wait to try more of his recommendations.

Thanks Dennis for a lovely time.

Booking Dennis should be your first priority. Don't hesitate as he books up fast! My 18 year old daughter, myself and my mother-in-law traveled to Amsterdam mid June 2023. We booked Dennis for 2 days, and it was the best decision we could have ever made. Dennis made our time together interesting and fun. With three generations I’m sure it wasn’t an easy task. Dennis guided us all over the city. Walking was our main mode of transportation, but we did ride both the tram and ferry. We splurged on the private boat tour, and highly recommend it. It was absolutely worth what it cost. Dennis is engaging, interesting and fun. He is also professional and detail oriented. For example Dennis would remove his sunglasses and put on his glasses when we stopped to chat. Such a minor detail but one I so appreciate. I used Wise and paid in full (a few months) before our tour. This is a very easy process. While paying a stranger (a large sum of money) is a little nerve racking, rest assured you have nothing to worry about paying ahead of time. Thank you Dennis for our time together, we have such wonderful memories!

Our half-day biking tour with Dennis was the highlight of our first trip to Amsterdam. Dennis was promptly responsive on email and we connected on Zoom to discuss details of the tour. After talking with him, I knew our tour would be great.
We met him at our hotel lobby and I suggested a few things that I wanted to cover. He came up with a plan and off we went. He kept my twin teens engaged and excited throughout the 4 hours of biking. We criss-crossed the city, covering local sights, and also stopped to have herring sandwiches, chocolates, and traditional cookies.
Overall, it was a brilliant tour and we got to experience Amsterdam like a local with Dennis. We also greatly enjoyed the cafe he suggested for dinner.

Dennis is an excellent guide! He is quick to reply by email, easy to contact with WhatsApp for quick questions when you are in The Netherlands, and we loved the personal service. He had a couple of Zoom calls with us before our trip so that we could collaborate on the plan for our time in Amsterdam. We booked his services for day 1 in Amsterdam to get a "city walk" with history and culture, lunch at a nice cafe, then going to the Rijksmuseum for a few hours, followed by a private canal boat tour. Our kids reported that this was one of the highlights of our week-long trip to The Netherlands. This was because of Dennis's knowledge and easygoing manner where we learned things without even feeling like we were learning! He answered random questions (what's with the blue front wheels on bikes? what's with the trash can cup holders?) and peppers in humor and facts of interest to you based on your own interests. My husband, for example, is very into cycling, so there was a lot of bike talk going on! Dennis chose a nice restaurant in the middle of the walk that was off the beaten path and in an area with a local flower and plant market. We found it nice, quiet, and helpful for a mini-break in the middle of our day. Our kids loved the hot chocolate and traditional Dutch options for lunch as well.
The Rijksmuseum part of the tour was great - Dennis helped us with getting it organized and a time slot booked so we had optimal use of our time. He also helped us find the highlights of the museum especially seeing "The Night Watch" and "The Milkmaid." It was great to hear his insights on the museum itself.
The private canal boat tour was excellent! The boat had heated seats, and complete cover keeping the rain out, blankets, and Dennis even has a pillow with a map of Amsterdam on it to point out where we were at during the tour. The boat captain was also excellent and picked us up right on time near the Rijksmuseum and then dropped us off at the end near our hotel.
Even after the tour day was done, Dennis sent handy links and recommendations to us on WhatsApp while were still in Amsterdam and even an update on an attraction we planned to see later in the week (basically that the main attraction, an old ship, was gone for a few weeks.) This was very helpful to me in continued service even AFTER the tour was done! Dennis is an excellent private guide, so I would highly recommend you use his services if you are planning a trip to The Netherlands!
