This tour was one of the best I’ve ever been on! Majel was a great tour guide. The tour was a relaxing, beautiful paddle though the Netherlands. We had a lovely picnic and spent time in a lovely country home.

I took this tour with my young adult son. He complained when I told him that I booked it. However, it turned out to be his favorite tour ever and we have traveled all over! We both agreed that this was such a nice time. We took the canoes through some beautiful areas of the Netherlands. It was peaceful and mildly active. You do not need canoe experience to enjoy this. We learned a lot about land, animals, culture and just had a nice time.

Our picnic was a feast! She even accommodated my vegan diet and the vegetarian diets of several other people on the trip. We had lots of fresh fruits and vegetables; a selection of bread for sandwiches; lots of Dutch cheese; nuts; cake and so much more. I highly recommend this tour.

If you don't take any other guided tours in Amsterdam/Netherlands, please take this one!

After the horrible experience with heavy winds and rain during the aborted tour we took with Wetlands Safari on May 3, I was surprised to come home and find that they had charged my credit card for the full amount of the trip. Certainly, one would have thought that they'd AT LEAST extend a discount considering the suffering we had to endure because of the fact that they did not cancel the excursion, despite the policy listed on their website, due to inclement weather. The wind that kept pushing our canoe into the banks was one thing, the freezing rain that caused intense shivering was quite another. Combined, it was absolutely unbearable. When Majel, the guide, told me to use my umbrella as a sail, I was not amused.

Of course, having the proper double sided paddle, which she so readily offered to another client on the trip, would have helped. However, we were extended no common courtesy, nor even the slightest concern about the incredibly obvious discomfort we were in. Thank God a kindly gentlemen who worked at the visitor's center where we stopped for (what was supposed to be a picnic) lunch offered to drive us to the ferry stop so that we could escape with our health barely in tact. Lord only knows what another 3 hours in Majel's care would have done to us and we're thankful that we took the ferry, a bus and a tram back to our hotel rather than chance fate any further.

It seems to me that Majel values the almighty Euro much more than the safety or satisfaction of her customers. Anyone in their right mind would have canceled or postponed the tour but, alas, she did not. I am beyond disappointed in the quality of the service that was provided and, therefore, I am requesting a refund.

A friend of mine and i booked this last minute and got to experience such fun!
Majel our guide was not only informative but really kind and so much fun!!!!
We met her at the bus stop took 15 mins to reach our departure point.
She then took us in our boats as we rowed from canal ways. We saw ducks eggs birds cows. It was scenic and beautiful!!!!! If u bought wooden shoes do carry them with you!

You may wear anything you are comfortable in, your feet dont get wet in canoe but once you start walking in the fields.

Welcome and post departure drinks were coffee tea juice water and softdrinks.

Picnic basket was the cutest . Dont worry if you are a vegetarian :)

We (with husband and 10 yr old son) went on a Wetlands Safari tour in July last year and it was THE highlight of our Amsterdam vacation. Majel is a pro – booking the tour was easy; communication was smooth; she gave clear instructions. On the day of our tour, Majel was easy to spot in our meeting place with her sign. The bus ride to the starting point was short; and we started with a brief orientation in a café (convenient if you need to use the washroom or have a drink before leaving, or need to apply sunblock – A MUST). The canoe ride was VERY nice...a beautiful and very personal way to experience the famous canals. The scenery is like out of a dream – so picturesque and good for the soul. Our first stop we got to explore Polder Land and learned how it is basically a mat of vegetation. During the demonstration, my son felt like he’s on a giant trampoline. There’s lots of flora and fauna facts that Majel enthusiastically explained and showed us. Very interesting! We had a picnic midway – assorted fruits, cheese and deli, and other Dutch munchies – and a swim in the canal. Overall, the experience is unforgettable, unique and amazingly fun. Some say life is too short to do anything twice but this is one exception. I’d do it again if/when I’m back in Amsterdam!

What fun this was! First of all I really enjoy canoeing. Second of all I really enjoy off the beaten path experiences in foreign countries. Bingo, double enjoyment. We took a public bus from near Centraal Station to the office where we met up with the others who would be our small group. We were then transported to the put in place.
We set out with 2 to a canoe and paddled out to a bird reserve. Along the way we went down little canals in the polder, past homes affording us the opportunity to see into the homes and residential areas tourists don't usually see.
Our guide pointed out details of life, like fish catching baskets, we would have missed or not understood without her. We even got to get out at one point and walk on the "land" of the reclaimed sea. When we jumped up and down, it bounced as it actually floated.
As we got out into the bird reserve, we saw many different birds from many parts of the world we had never seen in the US. It was fabulous.
A nice lunch spread was served in a bird watching hut. Simple but tasty. Cheeses, meats, bread and mustards, drinks.
Marjel was great. This was such a great experience. I've been to Amsterdam 3 times and this was one of the absolute highlights.

This was a fun, different way to spend most of a day and have a chance to escape the busy Amsterdam city center while getting a bit of exercise too. The guide, Majel, who is also the owner of the tour company will wait outside the Amsterdam Central train station in the morning. You will take a local bus and travel a short distance into the country right outside Amsterdam. It will give you a quick view of life outside the city. It is amazing how fast the city stops and the fields begin.
The town is criss-crossed with waterways. Canoeing through the village and through a local nature preserve, you will get an explanation as to how the land has been actually created by the Dutch out of lakes and ponds. No prior canoeing experience would be necessary. If you are interested, the company has a website:

Not only do you get an absolutely amazing view of the wetlands on the outskirts of Amsterdam, Majel is a fountain of knowledge and builds up a fantastic history of how Amsterdam evolved with the canal structures and wetland development. We had a great day with Majel and she took brilliant care of us. Thank you so much!!

This was a great way to get away from the crowds and busy-ness in Amsterdam. Picnic was delicious, we learned some Netherlands history, and enjoyed paddling our canoes during the evening!
