I was the only person on my tour this particular day 3 Aug, 2016, just me and the owner Majel, who lives in Amsterdam. I am traveling alone, and first arrived in Amsterdam a few days earlier, to meet my Viking Grand European River Cruise, so I signed up for this Wetlands Safari, seeing it on Rick Steves. I was... This was the highlight of not only our Amsterdam visit, but our starting of a month Europe trip would not have been the same if we missed this activity. I found Wetland Safari while watching a Rick Steve's Amsterdam special about two weeks before our arrival. I was shocked that it was so easy to book our event and so... More

Blessed with blue skies and light winds, we enjoyed a morning exploring the canals around a small village in the outskirts of Amsterdam. Much laughter at how 'El Capitain' was steering the ship. Peace and quiet. And a lovely lunch. What more could you wish for? Except maybe some mosquito repellent! Loved it.

We had the best time exploring the Dutch countryside on its waterways in the north of Amsterdam. Majel was a great guide and everything was perfectly planned and prepared. Even when it rained a bit we had cover during our lunch. She is very knowledgable about the Dutch history and nature and answered all our questions. I would definitely recommend... More

The canoe is fun, the proximity to Amsterdam is unbeatable. Learning about the nature reserve and the wetlands and paddling in the tiny village canals was amazing. If you are lucky you will see many birds and of course the cows! Majel is enthusiastic and fun, it definitely rubs off on you. You won't be able to help get excited... More

We took this tour 7 years ago and loved it so much that we had to do it again! We enjoyed our second time just as much as the first!! Majel is an excellent host and tour guide, with lots of information about the local environment. Take the tour, you'll be very happy you did!

We loved weaving through the little canals and duckung our heads to avoid the bridges! Our day was q little cold and included some showers, but we still had a great time. Our guide was warm and informative. She also provided us with ponchos.

We booked a sunset tour and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Meeting Majel at the station was easy and within 20 minutes, we seemed to be in another world! Canoeing under bridges and through narrow canals, passing quaint homes with clogs leaning against the back door, sneaking up on cows grazing along the canal, paddling past windmills, etc - In addition to... We booked a Wetlands Safari Canoe trip on recommendation from a guide book and are so glad we did! The entire family (including our children ages 11 & 8) enjoyed the time on the water. The canoeing is easy and relaxing, the picnic is a ton of fun and the information we learned about The Netherlands is fascinating. Highly recommend!

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
