Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

Well maintained and "instagramable" After you visit one of the museums there, it is worth to visit. The "I amsterdam" sign is not longer there so do not look for it. It was removed because it attracted too much attention and the place really does not need nothing else to attract attention. If you are still interested in the sign, we saw it (September 2021) in the Schiphol Airport, go where the escalators to the train is or the rent a car vendors are and exit the airport. You will see the sign there. It is not on ADAM Lookout, you will not find it there. Back to the Museum Quarter, there is an small garden on the northeast side. You might be lucky and might find art students there doing some paintings or drawings.

We stayed in Park Centraal Hotel, in the museum quarter. It was an excellent place to have our home base for exploring Amsterdam. It also made it very easy to visit all the museums in the area. Don't forget to get your museum tickets online - they all only accept timed tickets purchased online.

Contrary to what can be seen in many photos of the city, the writing "I Amsterdam" has been removed with the hallucinating reason that [officially] "the writing "I Amsterdam" had become a symbol of mass tourism and a hymn to individualism, in contrast with messages of tolerance and solidarity that Amsterdam intends to promote. A necessary change to "demonstrate that the city is not just a product." I didn't know that Amsterdam's city council meetings were held in Coffee Shops.

The Museum Quarter is the place to be to learn and discover in the Netherlands’s capital city. One shouldn’t rush their time here. You have the jaw-dropping Rijksmuseum and the beloved Van Gogh Museum, some other smaller curations, and one massive green space for the community to embrace. This space was kept quite clean for the number of people on it, which I appreciated, unlike Paris’s Champ de Mars by the Eiffel Tower.

It’s certainly challenging to miss, and obviously crucial NOT to miss, when in Amsterdam. I can’t wait to go back in the future!

A number of wonderful museums all packed into a very walkable area. You could easily spend days in this quarter without visiting any of the other areas this remarkable city has to offer. Convenient public transportation makes this quarter easy to get to from any part of the city.

We were in Amsterdam for a few hours and high on our list of 'to do' things was visit the temporary Christmas Market that had been assembled on the Museumplein just behind the Rijksmuseum.

We arrived around 12:30 pm which was an ideal time for a spot of lunch. First of all we had a good look at all the stalls selling food and drink before going back and getting something hot to eat, and some mulled cider to drink.

Nowhere near as big or impressive as Christmas Markets in other locations but still worth visiting if in the area and in need of something to eat.

The Museum Quarter in Amsterdam is one of my personal favorites. The area got a lot of the best museum in the Netherlands and Amsterdam and the area itself is wonderful too. Relax on the grass field or chill at the fountain. Enough to see and do!

The Museum Quarter is a great place to hang out or grab a quick bite. We were visiting both the Rijksmuseum and the van Gogh and and a couple of hours, so we decided to grab a quick sandwich from one of the local stands and just sit, eat, and people watch. Yes, its a touristy location, and yes, the food probably isn't the best in Amsterdam. But one is here for the atmosphere and there's plenty of that in the Museum Quarter. And the food stands, while maybe not the best, certainly are good enough and have plenty of different of options.

Its a large grassed area with the Rijksmuseum opposite the Concert hall to the south. Museums are to another side and a water feature (ice rink in winter) to the north. Not a picnic place but nice enough.

A very classy part of town, away from all the honky tonk. The museum buildings are gorgeous and are in park like settings, and along canals. There are a lot of tourists, but the crowds seem to melt away. Places to eat and drink nearby. Buy your museum tickets ahead of time.
