I did a FWT with Sandeman in Madrid and hesitated a bit, because quality was very low in Madrid.
This time it was Giorgi and he was brilliant. He was very well prepared, had printed pictures of things he was talking about. He was like a true local, showed us some interesting places to taste dutch food.
The thing with Sandeman is, they sell tickets to other tours on this free walking tour. Giorgi was not very pushy in selling these and that is why I would happily buy smth he offered. Tour was over 3hrs, but did not feel that it was long or boring.
If you get him as a tour guide, he will absolutely not disappoint you :)

Learned so much about Amsterdam from this tour! Pay what you think is fair! Our guide, DJ, was an excellent communicator. He was funny, passionate about his city, and he knew how to engage a big group. Book your slot early and DO NOT BE LATE for your tour schedule because the group leaves on the dot.

Starts from the National Monument at Dam Square. Burrows onto the side streets. Our guide, Jeremiah, informed us that Sandeman's charges the guides a per capita fee to lead the tour, so the guides live and die by tips. Too bad for Jeremiah, whose narrative spent way too much time bashing the US, his country of birth, and the president. Take the tour and avoid the guy like the coronavirus.

Really disappointing experience. We travelled to Amsterdam as two separate groups of friends so we separately booked the free walking tour of the city. When we arrived to the meeting point on the day of the tour we were prevented from participating unless we EACH payed 10 euros in advance, just because we were more than 4 people (we were 6 total, and as I said we were separate groups who made separate bookings for the tour). We also had already payed for the entertainment tax.
We’ve already been to several other Sandemans tours around Europe so we know very well that the company’s goal is to provide tourists with a tour that’s suitable with anyones budget.
In the end, we would have probably given the tour guide €10 each anyway, but to ask for €60 in advance for a free walking tour is just not acceptable.
We were also willing to separate into two different tours but the fact that they were not willing to help us and preferred to give us a refund for the entertainment tax shows how much they care for their customers.
We decided to just leave and explore the city on our own. Way greater experience!

We have done other Sandemans tours in Madrid and Edinburgh just to name few. Our guide Jacob seemed more interested in rushing everyone through the tour than interacting with anyone.
After tipping him at the end we asked directions and were told up there and turn when in reality we were blocks and blocks away.
Now the tour itself covered some good sights and we learnt some history and facts about the city. A good guide would have made it much better, I should have lept my tip

We have done Sandeman tours before and greatly enjoyed them but the Amsterdam one was a real let down. Our guide, who's name escapes me, was more interested in telling us about his life in other countries like Poland, Japan and London than he was about Amsterdam. We hardly walked anywhere and saw little. Then to top it off after hearing him talk about a multitude of drugs (again mot about Amsterdam, we had covered coffee shops earlier) he lost us at the end of the tour. A real shame as other Sandeman reps in the past have been really inspiring due to their love of their city.

Disaster. 3 of our friends had reservations, there were slots last minute for 4 more of us who didnt have reservations and the woman who was in charge of the Spanish tour was incredibly rude and wanted to charge us 10 euros because she said we were 6 (we weren't! 3 of us had their own separate booking and had already paid 5 euros, but since we were friends she said that even they had to pay 5 euros extra and the other had to pay 10 euros). Of course we left. I participated in many Sandemans tours in other cities, this is the first time I had this awful experience. People in charge was ZERO helpful, they were rude and asking for more money in advanced with no reason.

I'm a big fan of free walking tours. I think it is a great way to discover the cities and that is affordable for everybody because you can tip according to your financial situation.
Sandemans was the first company whom with I did a Free walking tour (10 years ago), and I have discover different cities with them.
They are good, interesting and you leave the city feeling more of its magic, which is something that I personally really enjoy. Also, the tour guides are usually really friendly and willing to give you all the advices they can.
The problem is that Sandemans offers other tours which are payed, so they spend half an hour talking about them, and then they give you a 20 minute break, which really consists of a time to get you to buy them. This frustrates me because they last the same as other companies, but around 50 minutes are only dedicated to the commercialization of their other tours, instead of in stories or information of the city. This makes me feel like I'm not discovering the city as much as I could, and it makes me want to book with other companies instead, because I feel like I’m getting more from them in the same amount of time and price ☹

We did the Free Walling Tour in Amsterdam with a russian tour guide. Terrible experience. He started talking the first 40 min about himself and how he is a freelancer that needed the money to pay bills and support his daughter. That we should pay him as much as museum ticket since he thinks of himself as a walking museum. Bad start for a "free" walking tour. We just walked away.

I typically always enjoy doing free city walking tours and have had nothing but good experiences with Sandemans. We took a tour with Kendra today and she was an absolute blast.

Recently booked a Free tour for my family of 7. Due to group size we were charged €8/person in addition to the €3 fees for the city. Is the €8 reservation fee distributed to the guide as gratuity? Or is there an expectation to tip additional?
