Our guide Axel did a great job at showing old/new spots in Amsterdam. Really interesting if you want to know all hidden history and how the city works nowadays (including coffee shop etiquette :P) I highly recommend.

This tour should be the first thing to be done in Amsterdam. Its a 3 hours walk through the city centrum passing by the most important locations like Anne Frank house, Dam square, Red light district, jewish district, the canals, the Old church and the University of Amsterdam. There is two diferent guides: one for spanish speakers and other to... More

Of the many "free" walking tours we have done, this one ranks right up near the top. Our tour guide Rob Manthey was terrific - great sense of humor, tons of knowledge about the city. Treated us to a cheese tasting from one of the local shops. He always made sure to check that we were all together, had great... More

Axel was a grate guide! Me and my brother had an amazing time despite the cold. The tour is the perfect way to get a glimpse of the city and then decided from there what to do next. I really did learn a lot, thank you Axel!

I absolutely loved this tour. I'm so glad that I did it before I finished my trip, my only regret is that I did it on my last day instead of the first. Our guide Sriram was fantastic, he was very warm and welcoming from the start. It was obvious that he had spent a lot of time and effort... More

Always like a Sandemans tour. Just go to the most popular place in city at either 10 or 11am and you will find a big red umbrella. Jacob our guide for Amsterdam this morning was great and informative. His restaurant suggestions was great too. You just can't go wrong with Sandemans

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
