We had a delightful ride into the countryside from Alkmaar to Egmond aan Zee, through woodland, farm land and dunes. Jennifer (Jen) was a delightful guide, who came to our rescue at the last minute when another bike ride operator cancelled at short notice.
It was well worth the expense, not to have to rely on Google maps to find a bike ride and anyway the added bonus of local knowledge is incalculable.

Jen was a fantastic guide. She is a local so not only does she know the area and history but she knows the cheese carriers at the cheese market as well. She was able to get us inside the fence at the market for a close up view and a couple members of our group were even invited to carry cheese with the cheese carriers! What a remarkable and unforgettable experience! Highly recommend this tour!

Thanks to a friend of mine who lived in Amsterdam for several years, my wife and I along with another couple spent a great day with Jennifer. Though Amsterdam has lots to offer, we were interested in getting out of the hustle and bustle to see some smaller communities. Jennifer went out of her way to accommodate us to make our day stress free and enjoyable. Jennifer is a wealth of information and allowed us to enjoy the day at what ever pace we choose, working around some pesky rain and wind.
I would definitely recommend contacting Jennifer if seeing a bit of country and small cities is up your alley. You will not be disappointed.

We were a group of ladies doing this tour as part of a birthday celebration. Jen was great! She “got us” completely - and went above and beyond for us all. Her knowledge of the cheese market, it’s characters and Alkmaar was fantastic. Getting us to a place where we could watch in comfort was the icing on the cake.

We met Jennifer in the town of Alkmaar and set out for our bike trip. She brought us to the bike shop and then we headed out for the fields and countryside of North Holland. She customized the tour so that we were able to get the benefit of the fields that were in bloom at that time, and she threw in some old ruins and a little education about Dutch food and cheese at the local market. She was very prepared (with water, and saddle bags to carry the stuff that I was overloaded with) this was a great experience.

Like everyone else has already said, Jen is an amazing tour guide. She clearly is passionate about giving tours, and gives you a first hand experience that you would not otherwise get from going on your own. She knows the city and the people inside and out, making it that much more enjoyable of an experience. The small group experience makes it so that you can actually ask questions and get to know the city. She is one of the best, most personable tour guides I have ever had and I would recommend her to anyone going to Alkmaar. My boyfriend and I both had a great time learning about the cheese market and the old city and getting to meet some of the locals along the way. We cannot recommend her enough!

If you are visiting Alkmaar then this tour is a must and you won't regret it! My daughter and I truly enjoyed our visit to the cheesemarket. Jen knows all the ins and outs, which made it so much more interesting than if we would have gone on our own. We were very lucky to get invited inside and to experience everything from close by. We did a lot of tours, but this one beat them all! We definitely recommend this tour to everyone who is interested in and loves cheese! Yes you do get to taste it? if you are at the right spot at the tight time. Also the tour through Alkmaar and especially the old town waz very informative. Our group consisted only of 4 people so indeed it was a small group tour and that made ir so much more informative and enjoyable.Thanks Jen, keep up the great work!!

My husband and I toured last month on a pretty windy and cool day but Jen made the whole experience SO much fun. She was a wealth of knowledge about every aspect of the Cheese Market and Alkmaar. Once in a while you get a tour guide who is so clearly beloved by the locals of that area that you get to ride on their coattails and get to benefit from their relationships. Jen is that kind of a tour guide. We had an experience that was the envy of everyone at the market! If you are considering visiting Alkmaar to see the Cheese Market, you must book this tour. And if your visit doesn't coincide with the market, go on another of her tours - you won't regret it!

My friend and I luckily found out about Alkmaar Tours when we were thinking about coming to Alkmaar to bike. We connected with the owner of Alkmaar Tours, Jennifer Rigby, and never looked back.
Jen has offered a level of service second to none. She asked us questions about our interests and preferences and personally designed an itinerary to meet our needs. We found her resourceful, knowledgeable, supportive and well equipped. She provided an absolutely amazing trip. We highly recommend Alkmaar Tours.

Jen makes you feel like an insider at the Alkmaar Cheese Market, because she is. She knows the cheese carriers and gives you insight into the real people of Alkmaar. So much fun!! Highly recommended!

Hi Barbara,
Have you looked at going to the Keukenhof gardens? You can get a bus from Amsterdam to the gardens very easily. There are also fields around there.
I only do bike tours of the fields near Alkmaar. It’s much quieter up here vs near the Keukenhof but you really need to be by bike to enjoy it best.
