About
The Evoluon consists of three parts: the iconic Dome where you can find the RetroFuture exhibition, the conference center and Brasserie Next. Retrofuture exhibition In an interactive setting with design, art, science and film, the exhibition takes you into the world of future thinkers, dreamers and designers. Humanity has always envisioned the future. Changes and innovation are set in motion by those who believe that the world can be better, or different. RetroFuture is the world's first major exhibition about the future of the past. Brasserie Next Brasserie Next is the new restaurant in the Evoluon. Brasserie Next lets you wonder what happens when people, nature and technology come together, and challenge each other. A place where you can relax or experience a true (taste) sensation on the edge of your seat. Conference center The Evoluon has an Auditorium and a meeting center with a range of 20 rooms. Depending on your need it can service 2 - 1500 people events.

We visited the retro future exposition November 2022 with a group of German and Dutch people.

As a proud Eindhovense, it was really nice to set foot in the Evoluon building, which is futuristic and unique in itself.

The entree was a bit chaotic, with staff members telling us where to go and where the (ancient) elevator was and how it should be used just after we entered. The elevator is an adventure in itself, because if you don't open the very heavy manual doors fast enough, the lift continues to the next floor. This happened multiple times to us and other people, so waiting for the elevator can take a while.

The retro future exposition is in Dutch and English and very text-heavy. Meaning you'll pass a lot of flat information to be read (challenging with a german group). There were interesting sections, but it wasn't as interactive as we had expected. A lot of it is text and videos and some things were out of order (an iridescent fountain and an arcade game).
I must also say that it was a bit confusing to find our way sometimes, especially as we had someone with us who depended on the (temperamental) elevator and the exposition has 4 levels.
It also gets quite busy and congested in some sections on a Sunday afternoon, especially at the scarce interactive elements.

All in all it was an okay outing, but quite "flat". It didn't capture me like I hoped.

An architectural wonder and considering it was built in 1966 it was futuristic for the time. The building resembles a flying saucer and it worth a visit.

Quick bus ride out to the unusual building. Currently it is a conference center, so there will be people using the building. You are allowed to walk around. There is a cafeteria for a drink or snack. There are a few historical photos on the wall that provide some interesting information.

This typical building originates from 1966 as a present from the Eindhoven people to Philips N.V. which celebrated it's 75 birthday. At first the building was filled with technical inventions and tests for the local public. Unfortunately Philips stopped sponsoring exhibitions and nowadays it is just a building for special events.

As close to looking like the 1950's/1960's idea of a flying saucer this building on the outskirts of Eindhoven is always fun to see.
