We would love to welcome you at the shopping centre of Venlo! The inner-city still has the old structure of the medieval streets. Small streets connecting public squares. Be pleasantly surprised!

Venlo is a city with a beautiful cityhall in the middle of town. The majority of the centre is for pedestrians only. The city is situated near the German border. On Wednesdays and Saturdays there is a market.
Venlo has many big shops ( like a Primark!) and many smaller eccentric ones ( like the English shop at the Grote Kerkstraat).
There is a whole new shopping area built along the river Maas where you see the boats and yachts go by.
There are more than enough places to snack and eat, so Venlo will be a nice experience for a day out!

My wife and I visited Venlo when we stayed in Germany for several weeks last summer. The drive from Essen to Holland is easy going and pleasant. Once in Venlo, don't waste your time looking for a parking space. Just head straight for the underground parking in the centre. It's easy to find and won't break the bank. You can also park on the large market square if you like. It's directly above the underground parking in the centre. The Town Hall is well worth seeing and there are plenty of places to eat to suit all pockets. There are also plenty of shops in what is effectively a pedestrian town centre. We spent a pleasant couple of hours there.

Venlo, busy but several empty shops. I would advise anyone thinking to visit to travel another 20 minutes south to Roermond, which has much more ambiance, lots of nice restaurants, and an historic town center, not forgetting the biggest designer outlet center in Europe for those who like that sort of thing.

There are in front of the old townhall nice cafes bars and restaurants were you can have a drink or a meal.

Along the maas the river in Venlo there are also two cafes restaurants. In the summer you have there till late the sun. On the townhall square the sun is blocked by the buildings.

The city centre is mixed with newer and older buildings. The center was hit by some bombs in ww2. The newer buildings are not so nice in my opinion.

We only wish we'd had more time to explore the timeless cobblestone streets of Venlo's shopping area. Mostly car free, it was relaxing to walk around window shopping with plenty of options for a drink or meal.

The center around the town hall is quite nice, with plenty of small squares and cafés and restaurants. One small square on the Monseigneur Boermanstraat/Nieuwstraat 27
has a memorial for the deported and murdered Jewish inhabitants of Venlo in WWII. It is where the synagogue stood. Quite impressive in its quiet way. It talks about the choice between good and evil in several languages. It can be reached by the gate at the end of the Joden straat, the traditional Jewish street. From there you can walk to the Schinke mert, with the Römer huis, the oldest building in Venlo dating from 1492. Don't miss the old harbor with the Peaceful warrior statue keeping the city safe.
