A nice quiet corner of the city where you can relax a bit. Benches with a view of the old city wall, which is currently being renovated. Nice trees, grass to sit on. On a small hill we found the bronze statue of a sad bear on a bench. It was built in memory of the bear pit (Berenkuil) and the last bear living there, named Jo. In this pit there are now sculptures of various extinct animals; on the pedestal lies a giraffe being stroked by a woman. The nearby carousel with the chair is part of it; it drives the woman's arm.
There is more to see and there is a small kiosk on the edge of the park.

Nice to walk a round, nice views as well on parts of the old wall around the city. Not extremely big this park. Go across the river from the park to the other side with nice little shops. Go left after the walk-bridge and walk on to the next bridge to go back to the center.

This is a gorgeous oasis in the middle of the city and even has its own herd of deer. We saw the park as part of our solar train tour and will definitely make the effort to revisit it next year.

This is not a large park but certainly worth a visit.Enjoy the greenery, fountains swans etc. Sometimes when you are on vacation, you are caught up with trying to get a lot in everyday. Well if you visit Maastricht, stop by the park and relax. THen walk back to down and enjoy the food, cafes and beer!

The colours through the park this autumn were fantastic. A beautiful relaxed path leads the way past the rushing fountains towatds the back of the old barracks where there are deer, peacocks and donkeys.

Having spent a week on a coach tour touring from Valkenburg, with a day to spare we decided to go to Maastricht and enjoy one of the city tours. But how to get there.
We arrived at Valkenburg railway station (lovely place) to find ourselves confronted by a row of ticket machines. It appears the system had recently changed and there was no human help on hand. By trial and error we managed to get part of the way through the purchase only to find our bank card unacceptable … despite using it in two or three local shops without a problem. Worse, local people some of whom spoke reasonable English, were not only unable to help us … they could not help themselves either. The platforms were awash with confused would be travellers and not an employee in sight.
Rather than give up we waited until the train arrived and explained our predicament to the driver. He was all one could have hoped for. "Jump in, he said and if you are approached by an official, tell them I said you could travel." And we did.
But sadly after all the delay we were left with little time to enjoy the park so this must wait for another day.
Incidentally, there were staff at Maastricht station and our return was timely and rather less frustrating.

This park was just ok. We went with our toddler, and there were no swings, and only one small slide. The green space is nice, but not our favorite given how awesome parks usually are in the NL

It’s a nicely laid out park alongside the old city walls. You can close enough tonronde the walls.
You see a lot of the outside of the old city center.

Ancient trees and some of Helpoort too. Despite the trash brought by tourists, it is beautiful and well maintained, in front of Maas River.
