Cafe Duke Maastricht

Solo

Bluescafe Duke is a small independently-run blues bar in the centre of Maastricht. The bar is full of Blues memorabilia and blues music is played over the sound system. If they are not too busy they might play your requests! There is a stage with live bands at weekends. The staff are friendly. I visited midweek during a heatwave and the place was fairly quiet. But I am told and can believe in the winter it gets packed.

Like blues? You will like Duke!

Solo

Nice and friendly atmosphere with great music. The sign on the bar reads "Be nice or leave". There are live shows on some days so you may want to check the events

I was threatened with violence & left

'Wow', I thought, 'what a cool, blues rock orientated traditional music bar' as my wife & I entered to have a night cap. We had a very enjoyable 15 minutes, until I was very amicably asked if I wanted a fight by a fellow punter at the bar. After initially thinking that this obviously a joke my wife & I managed to outwit this gentleman by saying 'no thank you', which confused him, grabbing our stuff & leaving mid drink. The offending chap tried to catch us as we scurried out. Genuinely unpleasant; we were ready to run when we hit the pavement. A pity, as the place seemed cool, but the one time I've ever been in I very nearly got beaten up & the staff seemed none the wiser. I was at the bar & very visible to the staff. I find it unlikely that the unpleasant individual had been angelic prior to our chat & the staff failed in their duty of care to my wife & I. Sorry, but that’s a fact.
