Our guide, Richard, was excellent. The visit is not so short and not so long. You can know the history of Maastricht and understand why the Fort is builded in that place. After the visit, and following the recomendations of Richard, we visited the city....More

You probably need to catch a taxi from the city -- it's a short drive, but a LONG walk and uphill. Book a guided tour and combine it with a tour of the caves/tunnels. Each tour is approx 60 - 70 minutes, with a 30...More

Its not too far a walk from the city and easy to access. The day I was there was really hot and it was a very pleasant experience to walk amongst the grass in the old fort. There are two main levels, you can walk...More

This building comes alive with a guide who gives a history and places it in context. Very reasonably priced tour. The English-speaking tours seem to be smaller than he Dutch tours. Worth getting the combined ticket for the northern caves. Both can be covered in...More

Buy a combined ticket and visit both the caves and the fort. Both tours are in English (too). The fort has a long history described during the tour by a great humorous guide (at least the one we had). Kids loved it, of course.

Interesting info about why Dutch's built that fort. As an reaction to the Frenchs attack in 1671 to defend the city. And even real d'Artagan died there, during one of several French attacks.

The Fort had reconstructed and original structures reflecting several additions over time. The tour is challenging up hills and thru tunnels. It included explanations of defenses used over the centuries. We had an awesome guide (Willy) who was engaging, entertaining and thorough.

Even though this is a very interesting place, I only recommend coming here if you connect it with the visit to the underground tunnels / caves of Maastricht. Both walks (to fort and caves) begin at the same spot and the caves are definitely the...More

Although we didn't have time to tour when we visited the area, the location of the Fort conveys the role it played historically in defending Maastricht. The views nearby are superb. When we walked through the nature reserve/recreational area to the old marlstone quarry, we...More
