We visited (the new apparently) museum as part of a ‘pass through’ tour. We had an extensive introduction by (I assume) a volunteer.

This museum is laid out in four parts in floors, which also double as an era of sorts. You start with the ‘black’ (era), in which you learn what coal is, how everything started and what tools they used
You continue to the next floor, the gold era, in which you learn and see the success and wealth the coal produced. But then, on the next floor you find the grey era. There you learn the flipside of the mining industry.
On the final floor/era you learn/see (by means of a short movie) how the area ‘bounced back’.

This era is still a bit slim in terms of information. It’s only a short movie. IMO there’s a lot of room for improvement here. The other floors give a good idea of the mining industry, but also there is some more room for improvement.

We spent about 1,5 hours in the museum, and all in all worth the money. One small disadvantage is that there is no area where they sell coffee and/or (local) snacks.

We had the 11 o’clock tour which lasts around 2-2,5 hours. The movie and tour are very interesting and also the demonstration at the end was great. Very knowledgeable and enthisiastic guides.
