very cheap and nice food
Jul 2020
The market had all kind of different fruit for incredible low prices! You can also get a lot of cheese and seafood. It is nice to just have a walk trough it.

Super outdoor market - a must to visit !
Feb 2020
If you like fresh produce markets, you'll love this huge outdoor market in Groningen - why don't British markets measure up to their continental relatives - the vast array of fresh produce / frruit / veg / meat and fish on offer was mind boggling !

Wonderful

It’s an awesome market with many fresh fruits. I definitely recommend the fries in the market! And the Portugese egg tart is also quite good.

Great Place to Buy Fresh Bread, Produce & See Dutch Foods
Oct 2019
I am now a resident of the city as of a few months ago & shop here when the market is open on Tuesday, Friday & Saturday's each week from 9-5pm. I remember my first time here in July 2019, I was in awe walking the stalls at the prices (much cheaper than the U.S. in CA) & just seeing traditional norms of Dutch cuisine such as herring/haring, the sweet smell of stroopwafels, large wheels of cheese, fry stands, freshly baked breads & even smoked eel. There are also stands with fresh flowers for purchase.

If you are a visitor, I'd say it's worth a look or to grab a coffee at a local stand there, eat a fresh pastry or support the local farmers by getting some fruits.

Aside from the farmers market, the perimeter of Vismarkt has many cafes/restaurants & stores to shop at. The pinnacle of the square is De Korenbeur building which at first glance looks like an important building (at which point it was related to grain trade) but it currently houses a local grocery chain, Albert Heijn. My first visit I thought it was a church or library LOL

Other than that, great place for a stroll & there are always signs of life around!

Wonderful atmosphere

Went by the market on Vismarkt in Groningen to get some ingredients for my dinners. You can find basically anything you need for it: Meat, fish, vegetables and fruit. There are also opportunities for getting delicious grilled chicken or traditional desserts here.

Market and entertainment, full of activities
Aug 2019 • Couples
The Vismarkt is one of these typical Dutch places where the square is often used for a daily market amongst other with fresh food, like fish, vegetables, fruits, erc. Next to that around the square the are bars, shops, restaurants.
Overall, a lot of activities, good atmosphere, very lively and a lot of fun in this student rich city.

The very heart of Groningen
Jun 2019 • Couples
The very heart of the lively city of Groningen. On Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays the square transforms itself into a huge marketplace full of delicious super fresh products. On Sundays there is an antiquity market. Around the square you find nice shops, cafés, and restaurants. Our favourite café at Vismarkt is Cappuvino, now also with a roof terrace. Our favourite restaurant there is Hock Sieng.

Best market in Groningen on thursday and saturday
Jun 2019 • Friends
Whenever you are in Groningen on a thursday or saturday, you should check the Vismarkt market. If is full of life with local farmers offering pretty much everything. The roasted nuts are...NUTS, you should try them for sure. The cheese stands are also amazing and one should not miss the Belgian Waterloo fries!
