This museum has a large number of items. There are many items from the Roman Era. These were found in the local area, as Nijmegen was under Roman rule at one time. There is also a good size exhibit of modern art. There is a English Language handout, but the individual items are not labeled in English.

After touring Valkhof Park I almost skipped the museum nearby thinking to save money. But I'm glad I went in. It had a very good collection of Roman antiquities including inscriptions, bronze objects, and military equipment. It is problematic that the descriptions are only in Dutch. But I was given an English explanation of the most important pieces. The museum... More

I received an excellent and very friendly welcome. The museum is housed in a very interesting building; the building alone is actually an interesting experience in itself. I found the layout of the exhibition rooms a bit confusing, though; I wasn't always sure if I was following the recommended route or not. You need to be able to read Dutch... More

It is very nice museum. It looks very modern from outside, however, it is full of history from inside. Only thing I was missing was English text next to every Dutch text. However, we got a book with most important atractions in English through the time of our stay.

Don't get put off by the exterior of the building, which might be mistaken for a large bus station. Inside the place is light and pleasant. There are some amazing archaeological finds from Nijmegen and surroundings - lots of them Roman and even 2000 years before the Romans arrived. Almost no detail is shown in English, but doubtless the reception... More

The most important museum in city center Nijmegen, all of course about the 2000 year old Nijmegen roman history. The most beautiful exibitions of roman findings and very good explanations. And allways an extra theme to be displayed, for instance "herculeum" the other pompei....

A very interesting tip for a rainy day or when it is cold, it's fantastic to see all kind of national things and it is extremely nice to hang around for a couple of hours.

This museum displays historic items from Roman times onward. Especially the Batavian riders' masks (or should I say face helmets?) are intriguing. The modern art is also interesting, with people seeming to walk out of paintings (I think those are Magrittes) and with many texture-paintings. Photographs tend to be boring, but here are some nice exemplars where quite some attention... More

This museum is next to the Nicokaaskapel and Maartenskapel. It has a wide selection of art and relics associated with the area, especially a lot of Roman-era finds. I really liked the full-face Roman helmets, and the Celtic mirrors (I have added a pic) that look Art Nouveau. The museum also has rooms devoted to the important Peace of Nijmegen,... More

The museum is located on the border of the river Waal in Nijmegen, and houses the entire Roman collection of the former Museum Kam in Nijmegen, the oldest town in the Netherlands. Children can experience the techniques the Romans used hands on: it will keep them busy for at least one, probably two hours. Nice café. After the museum a... More
