Het Valkhof is a rather small museum which, when we visited, was also half-empty. On the plus side, we were allowed in for free because of that. Their Roman artefacts are fascinating though and well worth a visit.

Museum het Valkhof is situated on the east side of the town next to Hunnerpark. On our visit, there was free admission as I believe the recent exhibition about gladiators had just closed. There are many Roman artefacts in the museum due to Nijmegen's history...More

Today I went to the museum, my main reason to visit Nijmengen. The had two temporary exhibitions which were set up very well. I particularly liked the one about gladiators. This one was very well exhibited, good explanations, it had some nice pieces on display...More

At the Valkhof the exhibition was dealing with gladiators. My son had a wonderful time there. Practicing like a real gladiotor made the museum very interactive. He still speaks of the Roman era as if it was yesterday . Thanks Valkhof for entertaining us.

With a couple of hours to spare, I decided to go to see this exhibition. At 16 Euros it's seems quite expensive, but wait till you see what's inside! In a spectacular array of artifacts and interactive technology, you are transported back 2,000 years to...More

The current Gladiator exhibit is very interesting although the lack of info in English was difficult. There is much to see and learn even without words however, so we thoroughly enjoyed or visit.

I went to this museum to view the special exhibit about the "Vierdaagse", the four day marches. It was so much fun because it was an interactive exhibit. Then I visited the permanent collection. I was very impressed with the Roman collection and the old...More

The museum is a challenge for an English reader. It was hard to get much information from the displays which are mostly in Dutch. Some of the newer displays have some English, but not many in the Roman section. The reception desk does provide an...More

Filled with an extraordinary array of artefacts from - what is claimed - to be the oldest settlement in Holland going back to Roman times. Displays are designed to appeal not only to adults, but an active programme for school children too. I was particularly...More

This museum has a large number of items. There are many items from the Roman Era. These were found in the local area, as Nijmegen was under Roman rule at one time. There is also a good size exhibit of modern art. There is a...More
