Yes, it is true, but apart from that, there are many interesting things to see and do in Friesland, The Netherlands. You can visit the pretty countryside and of course enjoy the beauty and diversity that the Wadden Sea offers. We stayed in the Lauwersoog campsite for four nights. This is a very nice campground, located on the Lauwersmeer sea.... More

We booked a guided walk the website of ecomare.nl The guide was excellent, she was concerned our boots weren't high enough, but we turned out ok. She guided our small group (<20) down the dam, into the silt, over shellbanks, trough a gully of seawater, onto a sandbank... I would never have dared this without the guide! We stopped at... More

The wadden sea is a great place to visit if you love nature and silence. At low tide, and calm weather, seals are sunning on the sand beds. Many companies offer walking tours, as it is an area which can be dangerous with high tide - make sure you have a guided tour. We visited by boat, which gives amazing... More

Mudflat walking in our case entailed walking to one of the small islands in the Wadden sea during low tide (Rottumeroog). Joining an organised group is highly recommended and we chose to walk with "Stichting Uithuizer Wad" walking to Rottumeroog, which also seemed to be one of the nicer routes to walk. Our walk started off with the more difficult... More

A great place to both relax and work out at the same time. When you go here be sure to take part in a mud walk or "wadloop" in which you'll actually walk on the bottom of the sea during low tide. A unique experience which you can't get anywhere else. It is really challenging on the rough part of... More

Been coming sailing here since i was 2years old and still visit every holiday. The beaches around the islands are beautifull and great places to swim. The wadden sea is great for wildlife wtaching, we have seen Seals, Basking Sharks and Jelly Fish often. The people over there always seem friendly and are always keen to help. We have did... More

My friend and I went mud walking with our Dutch friend in the Wadden Sea. Neither of us had ever heard of it but wanted to try it. We rented boots as we didn't want to pack them for 1 walk. We did the walk from Pieterburen. We stayed in a room that had bunk beds and could have slept... More

And interesting to learn all about the flora and fauna, both inside and around. We saw it from the Afsluitdijk.
