I am a huge fan of Antony Gormley, living relatively close to 'Another Place' another of his installations near Liverpool, so planned a detour via Lelystad so we could see it. It did not disappoint!
Situated on a narrow breakwater, the giant crouching figure truely is exposed, surrounded by water on 3 sides. It is clearly visible from Lelystad and the Houtribdijk dam.
If you wish to see it close up, there is a small car park nearby, it is then a 500m walk along a path that is wheelchair accessible.
Well worth a detour!

You'd better see it from a distance as it's a giant sculpture. A squatting man is looking at the water. If you want to get close to it, park the car under the viaduct, by the "Markerstrekdam" and walk about 500 m from the viaduct.

Creating a 26 m tall metal statue of this perfections and art value is something unique. So if you are in Netherlands and want to see something different definitely go to this place in Lelystad. ;)

If you are someone who is inspired by creativity this is a piece of art that is worth going to see. This massive piece of a man posed in a 3D exposure is almost miraculous. It is as if he follows you in every direction you go you see Him from a different perspective/ angle. I stood for what felt like hours under this huge statue and felt very humbled by what I saw.
This is something for people to look at from close up and yes from far off as well. Personally I love to watch how this man changes in every way! How an artist could have done this blows my mind.
Brilliant. Absolutely loved it!

The scale of the sculpture did surprise me, a giant man squatting in the middle of the sea, or so it seams. This is of course not the sea but a lake since the afsluitdijk was built, still the feeling of a very quiet sea brings a great sense of peace - only disturbed by the traffic noise on the road crossing over to Enkhuizen. Good place to relax after the Batavia Stad.

A nice massive statue - Especially East Europeans appreciate the "squatting man" only the sunflower seeds and the bottle of vodka are missing - maybe the artist will add in the future :)

We saw this unusual metal statue as we sailed past. The Americans on the ship shouted as one "Look he's having a dump". I must confess I hadn't noticed up to then but the more I looked I could see where they were coming from. When we had docked we were told by a local that the locals call it 'The Pooping Man'.

While walking around the town, we saw this 80 foot tall wire statue of a man squatting (some distance from us). While we did find a write-up about the statue, the write-up was in Dutch, so of no use to us.

From the sky line this statue follows you as you walk along the waterfront. The locals call it the pooping man and I can see why.
