Old world charm

Lovely area with the old world charm, with beautifully maintained buildings. Could not go inside, but seeing it from the outside too is an experience.

The Zurich's Town Hall was built around 1797-98.Considerate as a seat of administration and political seat of canton of Zurich. It was built on a foundation anchored in the river Limmat. Is an integral part of the medieval town on the right side of Limmat. The front of the building is rich decorated and a beautiful architectonic stile.

... but one of many. Late renaissance style, it is built on pillars on the Limmatt river, that makes it a bit special. And also very prominent on the Limmat outlook up from the lake. Being also quite different in style from most of the buildings along the river, this subtracts from its appearance, IMO. However, taken by itself, it... More

Beautiful town hall. You can walk inside and take a look for free. For being over 500 years old, this building is in great condition. The statues on outside are of the king and queen who paid for the buildings and in the middle was Mary holding baby Jesus but later changed to a lady holding a sword after the... More

The Rathaus is directly on the Limmatquai on the Limmat and was built in 1694-1698 in the Renaissance style. This quarter of town was named for the town hall. The length of the visit is about 15 minutes.

I bought a Zurich Card, there's a guide told me I could use Zurich Card for visting Town Hall. I followed a woman to enter the building. When I entered, it's quiet, doesn't look like a tourist place. Another lady come out from an offie, nicely suggest me to go to the other building across the bridge. I realized even... More

A building that is a "must see" for lovers of architecture. It is unfortunately only open a few hours on select days of the week for visitors. Some events are held in this location (outside the normal public opening hours), so check the tourist information site for details.

We attended a Concert in the old town hall. A beautiful building. Pretty scenic area. Glad we went as it is about to have major renovations.

Town Hall or Rathaus is a nice little structure near the Limmat river in Zurich. While there are many other imposing buildings in the vicinity, this one seemed no less majestic itself.

This is a nice artistic building and indeed there are quite a few in Zurich. Good place to visit, had plenty of fountains and the view of the water looks good towards the evening. Many shops and restaurants close by too
