Different! Stand at the front of the 6 person cart to get the best views both ways.
Pretty views over the city day or night (I've done both this trip!) Definitely worth a go if you have a day explorer card.
Runs every few minutes and takes 2-3 mins to the top.

The Zurichberg is the long hill that delimits the centre of Zurich on the east side. At its foot the Zurich lake and the Limmatt river split the city centre along a north-south line; its top is a beautiful vast wooded area, with many walking paths and rich of wildlife, and on the margins of the forrest there are many spectacular lookout points over the city. The climb is robust, anyway, and there are essentially two ways of avoiding to do it all on foot. One is to take a tram (nr. 6) to the zoo, which is located close to the forrest margin. More to the north, one can climb a first part using the Polybahn up to the height of Universitätstrasse, where many academic buildings of the Zurich University and of the ETH Zurich are located, then walking north a few hundred meters along the Universitätstrasse, then jumping on this cable car that brings you straight to the top. The ride itself is short and unremarkable, but when you are on top and start walking in the forrest or at its side looking down on Zurich, you will be well reimbursed.

This is a funicular not far from the heart of Zurich but easy to reach by tram.

It is part of the integrated transport system and a valid bus ticket covers the ride. It is a journey of just 375 metres in length with a rise of 94 metres, but it does save a steep uphill walk. It is frequent and fully automatic so can be a little eerie.

The top station principally serves a housing area where you can walk. I suspect there might be good views of the city and lake to be had sometimes but in June the trees and foliage were very thick and I could not find a good vantage point with a view.

It is a short journey worth experiencing.

The cog wheel is worth a ride in the middle of the city.. You will be able to see a different panaromic view of the Zurich city.

You can use this Seilbahn to get to the top and then when you get out you are greeted with such a beautiful view of the city. I usually use it to get to the forest behind the university. It is very peaceful and you can see the alps from up there!

I love funiculars so this is right up my alley. But it's a five minute speedy trip up to the university. Just fun to do. And free.

This is such a lovely transportation mode, lifting us to the top of Zurich hill, in a quiet residential area, with a nice view over the lake and stunning properties. It's probably better in the morning as we did it in the afternoon (4 pm) and the sun above Uetlieberg made it glary. Only regret, there is no real "aim" there like a cafe. The only thing to do up there is to walk across the residential streets or sit on a bench. A little cafe would have been great. There is a theater which may offer some nice opportunity but we weren't that curious to check out. That's a very nice thing to try if you have an hour to spare (easy access from Zurich downtown) or want a getaway from the busy city (if one can feel it busy in Zurich ;o). Though as there is little to do up there you shouldn't sacrifice a "real" visit if you have many plans a little time.

We had wanted to go to the 'top' of Zurich but had difficulty finding the funicular station. We decided to stop for lunch instead and had a great meal at Le Pain Quotidien. My husband then discovered that we were right there, at the station! The journey was quick and provided interesting views. Reaching the top gave me the same feeling as opening a Christmas present as a child. The forests and the walks are beautiful. It must be a wonderland for mountain bike riders. We went on a hot summer's afternoon and bathed in the coolness of the forest. This visit was a lovely respite from the busy-ness of exploring the city.

One of the best hiking tours in Zurich, we loved the forest and the top view of Zurich. Take the tram to Rigiblick and follow the right path at the foothills of the mountain, enjoying the beautiful top view of Zurich. At the end of the circle path you will find the Zurichberg hotel for a coffee, a sweet and a nice view of the Zurich. Just close to the hotel is the starting point of the Zoo tram to return in the city.
