We had coffee and cake there today 27.2. Our waiter was obviously very new. His supervisor, instead of supporting him told him off for not cleaning up, never picked up a dish, nor took our order. What disdain for us customers and snobbery towards his inexperienced colleague. I cannot recommend this place, there are many wonderful cafes in Zürich. Go elsewhere.

The Schober was always a place I wanted to show my guests from out of town. Unfortunately this time was a disappointing experience.
We were walking around the old town and I hoped that I could have a snack in the Schober back garden. To my surprise, the garden was cordoned off. The front garden was serviced but only 2 small tables were taken, the other tables and chairs were folded up and could not be used.
Other guests wanted to go to the back garden, too, but they were not let out. We had to sit inside on a nice September afternoon. It was raining, yes, but only much later in the afternoon.
There was no rational reason behind it, there was enough staff.
The staff behaved in an incredibly unprofessional and I-don't-care way.
What has become of this landmark in the old town? The food was excellent, as in the old days, but one wants to feel welcome, no?

The premises are over a century old in an old part of town. The cafe has a lot of character and the pastry selection seems good. Espresso was okay. Comfort was nonexistent on the tiny old chairs without a back and padding. Worth a visit. Just one.

If you are looking to nice place to seat, drink a tasty coffee and eat something sweet - choose this place. Cakes are delicious. There are tables outside you may watch the people passing by but its not at the street - it a little square. Very nice.

We came here for the got chocolate after a reading a number of recommendations. Cute cafe with Christmas decorations. A lovely hot chocolate too for 7.50 (more if you want any additions).

We weent 3 adults and 1 baby in a pram on Friday 11th November, between 4-5pm. As we went in we waited next to the sign where it said to wait to be seated. There we were told that we had to fold the buggy.
As the place was very narrow we wanted to move outside the cafe to properly fold the buggy because there was no room. There were more people waiting to be seated behind us and it was a bit difficult to turn with the buggy. Then, a female and blonde staff member says to us: "move from here you are in my way", we let her get through as we were trying to go outside. She comes again and said on a very bad manner, "get out from here, you are in my way". I replied to her that we were trying to move but there was a queue.
Other staff members went by with no problems. She seemed to be either a supervisor or manager as she was dressed different from other staff members, she was wearing all black.
She was very rude and impolite. It was not our fault that the waiting sign was placed in the waiters.
We will certainly never recommend this place to anyone. We had to leave as she made us felt unwelcomed and basically she threw us out the cafe with a baby.
Terrible service from this staff member, the lack of social and customer service skills was shocking and very upsetting.

Old-fashion and traditional chocolaterie and patisserie. Excellent hot chocolate with cream. They also make wonderful cakes and traditional sweets (they looked great but we didn't taste them). Also very nice place, it seems you enter another historical time. Waiters speaking both German and English but menu only in German (reading the menu we found out they also make brunch and lunch dishes). Be patient during touristic periods, you have to wait a while before seating, but it worths. If you want to eat some of the nice sweets you see as soon as you enter, together with something hot to drink, you have to take it and bring it by yourself to your table, the waiters brings all the rest... I don't know why. It's a little bit annoying.

It’s run buy Stifftung ( Foundations for mental or physics problem) Very nice old building and also stylish, the cake are always delicious. You also can eat here and as vegetarier are also good place to go

I come here almost every time I visit Zürich. It was established in 1842, possibly the oldest cafe in Zurich. The dimmed cozy old style room creates a kind of atmosphere that felt like you are back in time. The service is fast. The breakfast is plain and simple western style.

Unfortunately, the Café Schober is no longer the Café Schober, the cake is smaller, the cocoa much worse over-candied and the coffee unfortunately inedible ... we are very disappointed and wish the old Café Schober back. Always be original, never duplicate what you have seen ...
