Very nice place. We loved our stroll through the alleys, watching the souvenir shops, boutiques and cafes. We did not buy anything although we were done with our shopping but it did feel tempting. A part of the street passes by the Limmat river. The walk through this portion was amazing.

Niederdorf means “Old village”; but despite this name it's the last district of medieval Zürich to have developed (the oldest nucleus of the city was on the Lindenhof hill).
Commonly today the term "Niederdorf" denotes the old district which is east of the Limmat river and north of the Town Hall (and which in fact has Niederdorf-strasse as its backbone), with the addition of that part of the city which immediately gathers north of the Grossmünster.
The unitary character of the neighborhood is given by being very central, pedestrianised, and dotted without interruption with captivating shops or eateries which make it lively both during the day and in the evening.
That a leading city of the Swiss and European economy, such as Zürich, has continuously maintained the attractiveness of this district of other times, is something that fascinates me. I always like to come back here, and I'm inclined to think that this is the most beautiful area of Zürich.

Absolutely charming and beautiful old town. This was my first introduction to Switzerland, and I fell in love immediately. It is so much fun to stroll these narrow, twisting cobblestone streets and visit the little shops and restaurants. I dream of coming back here. I didn’t see even half of it in the 2 days I was there. So many intricate wooden doors, winding stairways, and potted plants. So many people are walking, biking, eating at sidewalk cafes, and enjoying the fresh air. I never wanted to leave!

If you have the chance to stay in one of the hotels here in Old Town, please do so. It is such a historic and lovely place to explore. Just walk around the little cobblestoned streets and marvel at the historic buildings, churches, while also enjoying the hustle and bustle of "downtown". Don't also forget to head over the the lake to enjoy the scenery. There are lots of places to dine in or grab a drink or break in this area. Also, it is not a huge area that you will worry about getting lost. Very quaint and lovely area.

This is one of Zurich's' beautiful and touristic area in the city. The area is very lively with lots of restaurants, churches , shops etc. There are mainly winding and cobblestone roads in this area. You can get lost in for an entire evening just soaking up the vibes. You can sit at one of the many sidewalk cafes and have a drink or dine. Be sure to relax and enjoy the river and lower down on the southern en is Grossmunster church. Enjoy the medieval ambiance of this area and wear comfy shoes due to the many cobblestone roads

Niederdorf is a nice area set in Zurich old town on the left bank of Limmat river.
It's an old part of town with cobbled winding streets offering many cafes, restaurants, galleries and shops. At the southern end of it is the imposing Grossmunster Cathedral. Great area to explore on foot for a couple of hours.

Lovely walk through the alleys. This place is on the right bank of Limmat river and during your walk through the shops, the view of the Limmat river opens up every now and then between the shops which I felt great. Did not buy anything from here, just plain and simple walk.

Went there twice in the last few months to meet with out of town friends. I was suprised at how lively the place was now. It certainly has gentrified over the years: now there is Desigual, Lulu Lemon, expensive watch stores, etc. Met my friends in 2 nice places: Santa Lucia (pizzeria/Italian food restaurant) & Cafe Schober (traditional Swiss cafe). Definitely would take out of town guests walking through there as it has such a medieval town feel with cobblestones & traditional Swiss houses. And of course the Grossmünster with Charlamagne (Karl der Grosse) sitting on the façade with his gleaming gold crown is a must see for tourists.
