This large cemetery is well groomed and peaceful. The cemetery also has a huge, old crematorium that is no longer is use. The crematorium was the first in Switzerland and one of the first in Europe. There are benches throughout the grounds for complete solitude.
In my opinion, the most notable person laid to rest here would be J Henri Dunant. Dunant was the founder of the International Red Cross. He received the first ever Nobel Peace Prize. The International Red Cross would later go on to win three additional Nobel Peace Prize awards. Dunant was also instrumental in establishing care for wounded soldiers, which was later included as part of the first Geneva Convention.
This cemetery can be reached with public transport Tram lines #2,#3 or Bus #33 and 72.

Zurich is not only the biggest city of Switzerland but also they busiest one: Everybody is in a hurry, always the next appointment ahead. So it's no surprise scientists measured that people in Zurich walk at the fastest pace worldwide.
Therefore it's good to have some places where you can take it easy and relax. I hope it's not too morbid if I recommend a graveyard: the Friedhof Sihlfeld. It was opened 1877 and still is the biggest one today. The graveyard was built after the example of the fameous Vienna Zentralfriedhof and offers some nice landscape architecture and beautiful trees. You can sit on one of the many benches or lay in the grass. Some corners of the graveyard are used as a park, so in summertime you see many mothers with young children or elderly who enjoy themselves in the wonderful surroundings.
The park that covers 288'000 square meters of area also has a variety of animals to watch: Next to squirrels, badgers, hedgehogs and foxes there's more than 70 species of birds living between the many old trees and large bushes.

A graveyard to walk over. It's a large graveyard, with big tombes, fresh and old graves, beautifully maintained, and very quiet. Just outside of the centre, but still close enough to visit

The biggest cemetary of Zurich is a romantic place to stroll. You can easily spend an afternoon here - and then go to hip Bertastrasse for a coffee.

If you need a break from the city’s frenzy, come here. It is a quiet place with large green spaces with large trees just a few tram stops from the city.
Usually I like cemeteries as they tell a story of the people. This one is scary as it is either kitschy or plainly boring. I hope this is not a reflection of the inhabitants of Zurich, or is it?
If you’re here also visit the Stadtgärtnerei (city’s gardens) with a nice greenhouse and changing exhibitions. It’s free.

This is essentially a large cemetery, and once inside there are plenty of benches where one can sit and get away from it all. it is very peaceful here and perfectly suitable for comtemplation.

Place with the biggest and largest tombs I have seen. The unique is that it's well maintained and here we have family tombs rather than solo.
