Undergoing external renovations at the moment making it a little difficult to find the entrance, it is worth persevering as it has a manageable sized collection of Italian, Dutch and Swiss art as well as some of the impressionists. Quite a few Chagall as well which makes it complementary to seeing the Chagall stained glass windows in Fraumünster kirche.

It seems likely you were at the Kunsthaus Zürich, rather than the Kunsthalle Zürich, which has no collection and works principally in the contemporary field. Nonetheless, great that you had such an experience!

I love art museums and Kunsthalle Zurich is definitely worth a visit if you are in Zurich. The museum is more interesting on the iside that the outside so do not judge it by the skin. There are different exhibitions and there are also galleries in the building, and the area is very interesting.

We recently had the good fortune of attending a preview of the art and science exhibition - "100 Ways of Thinking: University of Zurich at Kunsthalle" which is described in great detail on the website of the Kunsthalle which is but one of Zurich's excellent public museums.

This unique show is a remarkable fusion of neuroscience and true art. Neuro-images and functions are represented by highly creative displays including paintings and sculptures. The artworks were generated in collaboration with University of Zurich scientists. It is rare to find such such a "mind opening " display where science meets art. The Kunsthalle often has unusual and fascinating exhibitions and "100 Ways of Thinking" is the latest proof.

Visit the Kunsthalle in any case, but don't miss this wonderful experience if you are in Zurich before the show closes on November 4, 2018

Appart from the fact that it is very expensive (12 chf) for such a small museum (2 rooms with 5 artwork each). We had the joy to look at 3 photos of electric plug, some carpets and a coat-hanger.
For the next visitors, focus rather on the Pictet award exhibition which is free, with much more to see and full of interest.

There are a number of small art museums around the world that hold unique works of magic - of those, I know The Whitechapel Gallery in London, The Art Institut in Chicago, the Musée Marmottan Monet. The Rodin Museum, The Picasso museums in Paris and the two museums in Lucerne etc. Among these is Kunsthalle in Zürich. The variety and the presentation and the luminosity for the rooms are wonderous. I recommend this museum warmly.

I'm not sure I'd call this a museum. Not a lot of art, the layout was confusing, and we kept getting conflicting information about pricing for exhibits.

Although it is not much trouble to reach the Kunsthalle, by tram from the center of the city, for us it was a very disappointing experience. In a very big building the entrance of the Kunsthalle is hardly indicated, you can reach it by a construction elevator .There are several activities in this building.
Arrived there you see wide high halls with little content .Nowhere was any explanation! We read somewhere a title "The blind in his garden"and understood that this was about video art. We nearly fell in a totally dark room, somebody of the staff came to show us the way to the next room. The only interesting thing that we have seen was a documentary about whistleblower Bradley Manning.

I suppose it depends on what the current exhibitions are, but what I saw was worthless. The private galleries in the same building had some interesting stuff, though.

Worst kind of contemporary art. That's not an objective statement; you should go and judge for yourself, but I couldn't stand to look at it.
