This is a beautiful building right next to Old town. It has a striking tower to the building and amazing architectural details. Definitely worth visiting when in Zurich.

My husband & I had already had a good walk around the old part of Zurich and were looking for somewhere to read our kindles for a couple of hours before catching a train. The central library was the perfect place - large, spacious, with...More

Wow!! What a huge library! I went there just because I needed a place to study and I am completely in love with that place! In my point of view, offers the best infrastructure that a student can expect from a library.

The Central library is located right next to the Predigerkirche and you can admire the exterior of both structures in the same visit. I didn't go inside the library but it appeared to be open when I visited on a Saturday morning in Jan. Solid...More

The main central library is located in the Niederdorf area and popular with many of the local students. There are storage lockers inside as bags are not allowed in the main library. Clean restrooms, a café, vending machines and common lobby seating areas where one...More

Zurich has too many churches, too much money, lots of students, and way too few faithful parishioners. So it was easy to convert this huge old church into a beautiful large library. Get in early if you want to reserve a seat for a good...More

Who still needs libraries in the times of Internet? Well, this one is pretty much used, by students as by other folks. A huge building with a large collection, worth to stroll in and look around, especially as it is located on a nice square...More

The Zentralbibliothek or ZB, as its studying users call it, is neither a beatiful building nor does it have overly helpful staff. The entire atmosphere there is stressed. I much prefer the Staatsarchiv on Hönggerberg as a place to study or work.

In the US, a lot of times libraries aren't that quiet. I was surprised at just how quiet and calm the Zentralbibliothek is. There are plenty of areas on each floor to sit to read, study, or write. They have computer desks, regular desks, cubicles,...More

The library is fascinating, considering the history we can derive from the short descriptions in English accompanying the displays. It would have been better had the tour been bi-lingual: German and English, instead of only German, and would have made the €12/person fee worth it.
