It's not that this museum lacked interesting pieces and learning opportunities but rather how the museum curated the collection that was so awful. We entered in hopes of learning more about Swiss National history but left very disappointed. Everything was organized in 3 small floors in "caged" exhibits or glassed in compartments. Taking pictures of the exhibits was close to... More

The building promises a lot but although some exhibits are well done, it is difficult to get a clear picture of Swiss history from this museum, especially if you are not fluent in German. The Austrian one in Innsbruck is much better.

If you only have time for one museum, this is it! It is conveniently located next to the central railway station. The building itself which looks like a fairytale castle will entice you to enter. The museum gives you an excellent well-rounded history of Switzerland, from the medieval era to the modern day. Not all exhibits have English translation though.... More

The castle, in which this museum is housed, is amazing! Absolutely loved the ceramic fireplaces and wood panelling decor! The opening section provides a wonderful overview of the country's history, but be advised that the English translations are at the bottom of the write-ups, which means that you will be bending over frequently in order to read them. The armory... More

It is a museum about Swiss culture, history, manufacture. It gives you a good taste about the country's history and it is a very good choice for a raining day.

I love museums, and I love history so part of the museum was extremely fascinating. Maybe it's just that the Swiss lack so much of their own history or identity that makes it a little anti-climatic. What I did find extremely interesting was the part of Swiss history I didn't previously understand, which is their role in WWII. They were... More

We spent a cold and rainy summer afternoon at this museum and enjoyed it. Not knowing much about Swiss history, we definitely learned a lot. Not all of the signs have captions in English though, we should have gotten the audio guides. Also, if you get the Zurich Card pass, you get free admission to the museum!

Extensive history of Switzerland up to present day. All items on display are described in German, French, Italian, and English. It was the perfect excursion for a rainy day and is very easy to reach as it is right net to Zurich's main train station. Highly recommend!

You could spend all day here. Very interesting exhibits, you can get very close and see everything very well (no ropes 15 feet away).
