Lovely museum with great traveling exhibit

We really enjoyed the small cafe in the museum as well! The halls were clean and informative! Definitely worth the stop!

Overall the museum is interesting, but I found the migrants and national history sections lacking in substance and hence a bit boring. The Christmas nativity scenes made by nuns are amazing, the attention to detail is astounding on some of them especially the decoupage scene. The migrants section i didn't find too interesting although it shows a slice of Swiss... More

Went on a teacher's trip to the museum organised by our history department 10 Chf to get in and the museum is connected by subway from the main station It was my first time since the recent renovation and the new wing Architecturally the museum ' a mock medieval Castel 'is quite something The new wing fits in its concrete... What is there not to like? 2 steps from the Hauptbahnhof, near the Spitzplatz park, exceptional religious artifacts, beautiful art, a very cute expo of centuries old dresses and shoes... interesting insights on the historical working life. All inside a huge decorated castle. Only the temporary exposition fail a little.... "Politically correct" and not on the same artistic/esthetical level.

This is a wonderful place to learn about the history and culture of Switzerland. They recently opened their extension wing which gives them much more exhibit place. I like the architecture of the original wing more - it is out of a fairy-tale.

Balanced and engaging museum - learned a lot. A pity that part of it was under-construction. Basement level exhibition with tapestries and Zurich-scape is good.

Useful info: entrance 10CHF, it's open from 10 to 5 everyday except Monday. So it is zurich, it is Switzerland... the museum it's not representative for the country, its history and culture. The map of the museum is useless as you cannot use it to understand where you are and what kind of exhibition is exposed. Currently the west wing... More

The entrance is about 8 CHF and it is worthy. There are all the moments of Switzerland's culture, from archeological items (with fantastic devices you can interact with) to nowadays, like the integration issue. Visit it!

A cool museum if you are into history. We planned to stay there 1h and we end spending the entire afternoon there and have to leave the museum without having the possibility to finish the visit and now we are planning to come back there to finish it.

The museum is in full restoration mode with concrete halls, steps leading nowhere much, deviations around unknown treasures and general confusion in the "right " path to take. Slightly self-conscious Swissness in the exhibition features, which is to be expected in a National Museum. Startlingly honest appraisals of some of the darker sides while lacking in fanfare on the brighter... More
