The ZVV is the transportation system in Zurich. It covers all modes of transportation and the tram system is one of the most comprehensive and extensive in all of Europe, in my opinion having used many. The train system is called the S-Bahn, not to get confused with the intercity trains. There are many different tickets, day, multi day, group, etc, so decide which one is best for you. Our ticket also included the one hour river cruise. (on the side of the Swiss National Museum). You can purchase tickets at the SBB office at the train station or the Information office also on the ground floor of the train station.

Our family purchased the Zurich Card before we went and we made full use of the system. I personally feel the ZVV makes Zurich so easy to get around. Unfortunately, the boat rides on the river were not operating the day we visited as I had fully wanted to utilize that as well. However, we did take the train to Uetliburg and that was one of our family's favorite experiences in Zurich. We could not have done it without the ZVV. Great system.

Start from the airport we use One-Day pass for going to our hotel, then to the city centre, then doing short boat cruise, then using bus and various trams, mostly start and finishing at Central Station, convenient and handy, mixed with locals, taste the Zurich city real experiences, all in one handy ticket. Just pay attention to the Display Screen in the tram if you are not German speaking (and listening), we got a bit lost because missing the information on the screen, and do not understand the announcement. Really good integrated public transport system.

A quick, efficient method of navigating the city. Various options are available depending on how long you will be using the system. For us, it was getting from Old Town to our hotel. Single-use tickets were purchased at the kiosk (located at each stop) with a credit card. English was an available language option and ticket choices were clearly indicated.
