About
THIS IS HOW HISTORY CAN BE FUN! Highlights from the cultural history of Zug are presented in the theme rooms. Room follows room like a string of pearls, and you can immerse yourself in your own universe in every room. It goes without saying that suits of armour and halberds will also be shown, but that's not all by far. Visitors can immerse themselves in the past, from atmospheric scenarios up to an explosive love affair. On the basis of collection objects, interactive stations and short texts, both the young and the old can learn lots of interesting facts about the lives of people in Zug over the last five hundred years. The popular model of the city not only shows the development of the city up to 1730 - it can then be followed virtually up to the year 2013 on a touch screen. The ensemble rooms let us experience industry as our grandfathers and great-grandfathers knew it. An the multimedia stations offer further information for those who are interested in a little more background. The youngest guests are also not forgotten: The comic figure Lili guides them through the rooms with questions appropriate to their age. A wide selection of tours and workshops for all ages promises hours of excitement.

While standing out physically in the Old Town not many have been, have seen the museum from the inside. At least that s my impression every time I go there. Friendly receptionist is taking names (Covid tracking) and then you re left on your own. Zug style: renovated to perfection, absolutely spotless interior, handicapped access to all levels by elevator. Small cafeteria and even smaller „Shop“. You can hear the time tick...

The burg Zug museum is in an old castle that looks like a fairy tale version of a Swiss farmhouse. It is surrounded by a gate and the building cantilevers a bit over itself. Inside the museum you'll find a very well maintained and incredibly professional museum. They clearly take good care of it. There are about five floors of exhibits that tell the story of Zug, the castle, and life in the area through the past few centuries. There are films, interactive models, rooms displaying domestic and business life, and amazing views over the lake from the windows. They are cash only - so don't count on being able to pay with a card. They also have everything in English if you are not a German speaker. It's definitely worth a visit if you go to Zug!

Decided to try out the local castle museum, kids complained like crazy, the last thing they wanted to do! But once inside it was really great... Quite small on a number of different levels there were rooms laid out well to try and give you some sense of life in the burg. Including a kitchen and chemists room. On the top floor there were costumes and books for children to enjoy. In the end we did not want to leave, one of the best attractions in Zug for a family.

Most people overlook Zug in their haste to travel by train from Zurich to Luzern. But the old town of Zug has a lot of history, town walls, towers and the old castle (Burg). Take a couple of hours to walk around and if it is a fine day top it off with a visit to the rose garden up the hill from the post office.

We took microspikes with us to hike up the top of the Zugerberg in March. We could have managed without them but good on ice. Delightful sculpture walk seeing animals carved out of tree stumps.

What an amazing castle well renovated with lots of parts of this castle original of the time. Inside the castle the history of it during the various historical periods. I recommend the visit. From the fourth floor you could see a great panorama of Zug.

We live nearby, and we do enjoy going there in particular when it rains. The environment is cosy, with great history, lovely antique furniture and some good paintings.
