This is a huge early mediaeval castle, un-ruined in parts and well-restored in others. A real treat if you like discovering history and architecture. If you want to tour the whole castle you will be climbing up and down a lot of stairs! Incidentaly, superb views over Lake Geneva towards Montreux, and incredibly easy to get to (it pretty much... We went during the medieval festival, but it was the castle itself that struck us. It's got so many unusual and interesting places to explore... Fascinating oak doors, ceilings, dungeons, chapel. Well worth a visit an excellent value in an expensive region. Grab a riviera card for discounted entry. Ate medieval fare in an authentic setting! Delicious (slightly pricy) food.... More

Wanted to walk around a castle and feel the Game of Thrones ambiance... And this did not disappoint at all... Had the montreux-riviera card which enabled me to get 50% off the entrance ticket... (6.25fr fr 12.50) and got the audio guide iPod for 6fr... so worth it to know fully the story behind the stone walls!!! Very accessible from... More

I just loved the architecture of the castle. Built over many years and additions made constantly give it a very unusual shape. Situated on the lake give it a spectacular setting. We visited in October and it closes at 6pm but the last entrance is at 5pm so plan accordingly

Located near Montreux, outside of Lausanne, the castle is situated on Lac Léman (Geneva). Plan a couple of hours and take the self guided audio tour. The castle is filled with history and every outlook provides a magnificent view of the lake and surrounding mountains.

My daughter and I took a self-guided tour of the well-preserved medieval Chateau de Chillon, one of the top attractions in Montreux. I loved absorbing its history as home to royal families and at one time a prison written about in a poem by Lord Byron where his good friend was held. It is an imposing presence at water's edge... There's an admission fee. Construction started in the 11th century through the 13th century. Nice time display model of the ongoing construction. See where Francois de Bonivard was held prisoner. Plenty of rooms to see. Was a bit chilly it being November and raining when we visited.

Amazing and great few hours I spent here, inside of castle and in the garden. I love old history and here it is such place. It was a great joy for me to visit each chamber, and fill my soul with the stories of an ancient castle, here in such superb place so close to Montreux. I love Montreux and... More
