The trip from Montreux to Zweisimmen was absolutely gorgeous. The ride in the first class compartment was very pleasant and a great experience. The view of Lake Geneva above Montreux is just stunning and the view of the mountains is breathtaking. It is a fantastic ride. Very friendly and courteous train staff. .

I had a Eurail Pass and was ecstatic when I found out I could use it for the GoldenPass Line and not just that, but I had enough trips to actually use my Eurail Pass - to clarify, the normal pricing for the GoldenPass Line was expensive, but I wanted to really go on it and I discovered I could use my Eurail Pass; a Eurail Pass lets you get discounts or pre-pays what can be called 'trips' or 'journeys', but there is a set amount of trips/journeys you can make. So you need to plan in advance. I got a lucky double whammy, I had a Eurail Pass and trips/journeys left to spare. So I spent around 8-10 hours going from Montreux to Luzern on the GoldenPass Line and the ticket man at Montreux thought I was absolutely mad. There are different trains and you can see which one I went on (2nd class) - absolutely beautiful interior and an excellent way to see Switzerland. You do have to switch trains depending on where you're going and wait sometimes. I did get 'stuck' at one place and had a language barrier too, but I managed to figure it out and was glad I'd decided to see Luzern, although more time there would have been nice. If you can, I would recommend The GoldenPass Line from Montreux to Luzern and back, although you might want to spread it out over two-three-days.

There are three trains on this route [Golden Pass Line]: 1. Lucerne-Interlaken Express [like any regional train - could be dirty] - [its taken by people, on the way to Jungfrau station] 2. Interlaken to Zweisimmen [like any regional train - could be dirty] 3. Zweisimmen to Montreux [best route and train] Note: they have normal carriage as well on this route so board the right carriage on Golden Pass Line. "or" 1 to 3 (above) vice versa/ opposite direction Either buy Swiss Travel Pass (&reserve your seat on the train from the official website of Golden Pass Line) “or” buy tickets from website of Golden Pass for a selected date and train (s) - (with seat selection). With Swiss Travel Pass although it is not mandatory to make a reservation however it is advisable to do so since train(s) might be full and you might not get a seat to sit. Bear in mind 1st or 2nd Class of Swiss Travel Pass must match your reservation class. If you are planning at least two panoramic trains like Golden Pass and Glacier Express then Swiss Travel Pass is worth it. If you only intend to do Golden Pass and return home then you just buy tickets directly from their website, select class, date and route. You may travel in winters or summers, both have their own beauty. If I were to pick between Golden pass and Glacier Express then it would be Glacier Express.

Traveled from Geneva to Montreux on the Belle Epoque train. In 2nd class, very nice seats, and service of refreshments at your seat. The trip was in early December and the snow was falling, it was gorgeous. Would highly recommend this trip. It was quite romantic and quiet with the snow fall.
