Stalls were in full swing with crowds gathering around. An impressive variety of goods and foods were there for acquiring.
It’s a grand space with lovely buildings to be seen. A beautiful fountain, Fountain of Justice, is a captivating centrepiece.
Also intriguing is the Palud Clock. Behind the Fountain, it performs animatedly regularly.

Pretty disappointed, actually. The place does not have much charm and is not that big. It seems complicated to me to consider it as a meeting place. There is the City Pension and the Fountain. We go there and we take two three pictures and we continue.

A large cobbled square (not square in shape) with several interesting sights: the Fountain of Justice with colourful statue, behind it above the pharmacy a historical mechanical clock that parades every hour on the hour, the Town Hall (look up to see the fancy dragon gargoyles and don't miss the wrought-iron gate), several good shops just after the town hall - florist, local savoury specialities, magnificent cakes and sandwiches at Moutarlier (lovely dark green façade guarded by two stone owls), the excellent Café de l'Hôtel de Ville but you'll need to book a table, opposite a venerable toyshop where the kids can get down several stories via a tubular slide, Rituals cosmetics and tea, Olivier & Co for olive oil and things made from it - and don't miss the tiny grocery store that stocks things from all over the world, and is renowned for its spicy merguez sausages, which are sold in a big spiral wheel. Exhibitions are sometimes held in the glassed-in courtyard of the town hall, and guided tours leave from here. Go through the arched passageway to the left of the town hall (when facing it) to reach another square with a deceptively small-looking bookshop in the corner - it is a labyrinthine Aladdin's cave, with unfortunately only a few English books but a lovely place to browse, with lots of nooks and crannies. Wednesday and Saturday are market days on place de la Palud and neighbouring streets; the first Friday in the month there's a craft market. There's a wider choice of second-hand English books upstairs in the shop on the left as you go up the Escaliers du Marché, the wooden stairs leading up to the cathedral (go past Lush, past the little bakery, and round the corner, it is tucked away on the left after the antiques shop).

The Place de la Palud will be surmounted by the "Justicia"(1585), a jung lady blindfolded with a sword and a libra in her hands as a dodecagonal water pool(1726).
This ensemble testifies together with the city hall from the power of the growing borough.
Always to the full hour you will find a lot of people watching the wonderful clock, which tells you the history of the canton Waadt with its figure game.

It's okay as town squares go. We really just walked through it on the way from the metro to the Cathedral and back again. There is a very colorful fountain there, and that is sort of interesting.

This square is the heart of Old Town Lausanne with many wonderful old historic buildings, fountains, boutique shops and restaurants. We did not have time to wander down many of the streets in old town however we found everything we needed near the main square. We found a wonderful shop that sold all natural beauty products and my wife walked out with a good supply of all natural products - very pleased! The main square is located just downhill from the cathedral and near the old town city hall. After our way too brief visit to Lausanne, we definitely will be back for a more in depth discovery tour of Old Town. It has much to offer.

Place de la Palud is the main square located in the old town of Lausanne, a city in Switzerland. In the square there are some historical buildings like the city hall and the fountain of justice. Also it is the market square of the city and a very important place in the Middle Ages. Nowadays, it is a beautiful square, not more.

Place de la Palud, with its impressive Fountain of Justice in its center, is the heart of old town Lausanne. It is bordered with sidewalk cafés & restaurants as well as small boutiques. The seat of the cantonal & municipal administration is adjacent. From there it is only a few styeps to the medieval Escaliers du Marché (very ancient and quite steep) leading to the Cathedral towering above.

This is a pleasant square with a nice fountain in one end. Worth a short break as you are heading uphill to the cathedral.
