Amazing exhibition of Canadian Impressionism in this jewel of a gallery. The city is so fortunate to have such an amazing home to display heritage work in a heritage parlour environment. The staff and director are top notch!

A few minutes by bus from the center of Lausanne. Green and calm surrounding, with a small cafe/restaurant. Some great paintings. Writings next to paintings and books in the museum shop in French only but you can get an audio guide in English for some of the works.

My wife and I have been to the Hermitage many times, normally for one of the special exhibitions that it often hosts. Last week was for an excellent exhibition of British art from Turner to Whistler (mostly 19th century). It was superb. The museum has some very knowledgeable guides, who make the tour much more interesting and are in our view well worth the cost. Before afterward or during a break in your tour, you can enjoy a very nice meal or drink in the restaurant next to the museum. Or if you prefer Swiss mountain food, you can walk uphill to the Swiss Chalet restaurant. I highly recommend the Hermitage for a half day outing, but check in advance to see whether there is a special exhibition that you may enjoy.

Nicely place on the high part of Lausanne, the area is super peaceful and nicely serouded by a nice park, beautiful buidling where the foundation is placed. The visit was really nice and with not a crowdedness place, at this date its an english from the victorian period and nicely displayed and the exposition are being offered several different ones during the year, living in Lausanne its great to have such place available 👍

The gallery is situated just over a mile north of the main railway station in Lausanne if travelling on foot. However it is quite a steep incline for much of the way so it might be better to take bus route 16 which runs to Hermitage from the town centre. The current exhibition is called British Painting from Turner to Whistler. In addition to the named artists, there is a decent collection of Victorian art including Pre Raphaelite work. Atkinson Grimshaw, Singer Sargent, Rossetti, Millais, Burne-Jones, Watts and Alma-Tadema all featured, as well as an interesting series of black and white photographs of Jane Morris. The permanent collection was decent too with some good French Impressionist paintings. I also enjoyed the work of Swiss artists such as Francois Bocion and Alfred Chavannes. Admission fee was CHF 19.
