Beautiful journey up the mountain, but it would be good if train times were posted more clearly somewhere - we never knew when they were coming and always ended up waiting between 10 - 30 mins - annoying when you just want to ski! But the wait is worth it though - views of a lifetime & the iconic Matterhorn!!

The Gornergrat terminal is across the street from the Zermatt train station. The only service is from Zermatt to the Matterhorn observation and back. The train has a cog (center) wheel which engages during the steeper parts of the 20 minute trip. The scenery is terrific....get a seat facing forward if you can. At the top there is an I... More

A pricey ride; at $80 a piece - but everything in Switzerland is pricey. At the peak; are glaciers to explore and the usual gift shop and ski wear shop; as well as a restaurant. We were there on a particularly clear, beautiful day and enjoyed a meal on the terrace. There is also a hotel we did not investigate.

Take the train straight to Gornergrat station, I have been already here 2 times this year (summer & winter), it is the best point to see the mountains and the glacier (When the weather is good!!!). Don't forget to take a rest in the restaurant and enjoy the view.

What a good view but it is pricey. Sit on the right hand side for the best views. Take the opportunity to get on and off the train at the various stops.

The Gornegrat train excursion is an interesting way to spend 3 to 4 hours. The ride is through alpine foresr, past ski trails, to the top of a local peak. There is a restaurant on top to relax and enjoy the views. Some get off and walk back along the mountain trails from one of the intermediate stops.

This is the greatest train ever. In about 30mins, you're up to the top of the mountain with zero stress and awesome views. Couldn't ask for more.
