About
What does an Alpine paradise look like? Probably quite like Matterhorn glacier paradise. The peak with Europe’s highest mountain station soars 3'883 metres above sea level. The peak lift takes you up to the 360º viewing platform. The view from there is like paradise. You can see an incredible 38 four-thousand-metre peaks and 14 glaciers. And a must-see in Zermatt’s glacier paradise: a real glacier palace. Up above, there is a cinema lounge, fine cuisine, superb ski slopes and a little lower, on Trockener Steg or Schwarzsee, hiking and biking trails. And on top of that many unforgettable experiences the whole year round ...

    A must do stunning experience.
Went on this trip while visiting Zermat and it was truly stunning and a must do experience. You go up by two cable cars I seem to remember, one only completed around 2021, and up to 13,800 feet so pretty high. The ride is an amazing experience with tremendous views, got to have a clear day! That said we didn't see the Matterhorn. At the top there is a cafe and facilities, but another highlight was going down in a lift, then to walk along a rock lined tunnel which then changes as you walk inside a Glacier. Absolutely amazing experience to say the least. There are ice sculptures and the like so photo opportunities. Stunning is an understatement!
Thank you for your message. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your trip to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and we hope to welcome you back to Zermatt soon.

    Go early and upgrade 😃
Totally worth it! Amazing experience and if the weather is clear, definitely upgrade to the VIP cabin with glass floor for the added something special. Don’t leave too late in the day as the attractions close promptly at 15:45 / 16:00.
Thank you for your visit and your very nice review. We hope to welcome you back to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise soon.

    A must visit in Zermatt
With the Swiss Half Fare Pass, the return cable car ride from Zermatt is CHF60 each. The ride took about 45mins to reach the top. The price include entrance to Glacier Palace. Great view up at the observation deck, and beautiful place to visit. On the way down, we did the Matterhorn Glacier Trail, which took about 2.5 hours (highly recommended for people going Matterhorn Glacier Paradise).
Thank you for your visit and your kind feedback. we look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to Zermatt soon.

    Breathtaking and incredible
Felt it was a bit on the pricy side, but so, so, so worth the cost! Amazing views and amazing ice sculptures. Can hike as far as you want. Felt like too many people were waiting for a ride back, but alot of people fit on the first (highest) gondola, and some get off along the way.
Thank you for your visit and your kind feedback. we look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to Zermatt soon.

    Excellent Experience
Initially I wasn’t sure whether to take this trip, Gornergrat or both. I ended up doing both and was glad I did. This trip felt more extreme and and seemed closer to the Matterhorn. Alternatively, Gornergrat had better views of Zermatt and better views of snow-capped mountains. I had planned my excursion based on travel articles that (unbeknownst to me) were geared to summer visits. It turned out they weren’t totally relevant for visiting in early October. For example the Peak-2-Peak option was not available. Also, the Schwarzsee station was closed. I had a great visit nonetheless and recommend visiting both mountains.
Thank you for your visit and your kind feedback. We look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to Zermatt soon.

    Fabulous mountains
We had a fabulous three day weather window in Zermatt so this trip was a must do. Yes the cost is alot for us from New Zealand but we came to see the Matterhorn and environs and this trip was well worth it alongside the other options we took. We walked a lot down the hills as you can in summer, but thoroughly enjoyed the ice sculptures and views of mountains and glaciers. Being so accessible to the high mountains is a special thing for Zermatt so look after it.
Thank you for your kind words. We're overjoyed to hear that you find our place beautiful. We look forward to serving you again soon.

Interesting point of view of the Matterhorn. Also really close to the Italian border!
Being at the highest gondola station at the Alps was a milestone in itself, but seeing massive glaciers along the way was just another experience on its own. You can see the crevasses and the sense of scale. It's just hard to comprehend. The Matterhorn looks totally different than its stereotypical Toblerone look, so it would look surprising and disappointing at first, but mountains just look different when seen from different angles. The exhibits are pretty nice, including their ice palace. They showed ice sculptures and provide plenty of photo opportunities for visitors.
Thank you very much for your visit and your nice feedback. We hope to welcome you soon back in Zermatt!

    Unforgettable and spiritual
Stepping out into the open air at the peak was akin to a moving spiritual experience, with brilliant clarity in the blue-sky morning. All around panoramic vistas were tremendous. Gazing at all the wonderful peaks, some snow covered, was truly memorable. All this grandeur after arriving in Zermatt around 9am and subsequent cable cars all operating like clockwork. After the peaks adventure a walk through the Ice Palace was most enjoyable. Seeing the fine variety of exquisite ice sculptures was another highlight.
Thank you for your review! We're thrilled to hear that you had an amazing experience. Your positive feedback is greatly appreciated!

Fantastic. We stayed in Zermatt. My wife set up the peak to peak adventure. It was exciting. We took the gondola to the top and had hot chocolate. I don't even ski but the gondola ride up and back was exciting.

    Gorgeous. Amazing.
We made the reservation online and received confirmation by email: the tickets with QR Codes must be picked up at the Zermatt Tourist Information Office, located at Bahnhofplatz 5, simply by presenting the confirmation letter (a very simple process and the service it was amazing). The starting point is Bergbanhnem AG station, about 15 minutes away on a beautiful walk that is worth taking or via the free electric buses that run around the small town. From there a series of gondolas and aerial cables lead to the last station, the Klein Matterhorn itself. We went on a very cold day in winter, so most of the tourists were skiers, but we never faced long queues, which can be very different in high season (summer). The sky was completely blue, an ideal day (we were lucky, as in the previous days the weather conditions with strong winds and avalanche risks temporarily closed even the cable cars and some slopes). So, the entire route was simply amazing, with all those mountains and the imposing Matterhorn, from different angles. We took a lot of pictures. The views from the observation platform at the top (very strong winds) are breathtaking and the ice palace is quite interesting. It's also worth stopping at the restaurant in Klein Matterhorn or Trockener Steg, enjoying the beautiful snowy landscapes. The tour is not cheap, but it was extraordinary. Unmissable, on a day with good visibility. I recommend downloading the ZERMATT MATTERHORN app, which features up-to-date relevant notifications as well as real-time images and videos.
Thank you very much for your visit at Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and your enthusiastic, detailed feedback. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at 3883 metres above sea level and hope to welcome you again soon.

You will take two gondolas and a cable car to get to the top of what is called Klein Matterhorn. The ride is easy and very scenic. If you’ve purchased the Swiss Travel Pass it provides a 50% discount making the cost $43.50 CHF per person. Certainly worth the cost. In the winter there are many skiers anxious to ski into Italy but my husband and I went for the views and hoped to maybe hike a bit. If you want to hike you will find that the trails may be closed and they aren’t well marked. The ski trails are definitely the focus. The views are fabulous though with wonderful photo ops of the Matterhorn as well as many of the other 4,000+ meter glaciers. Be sure to take the elevator to the observation deck but be prepared to dress warm... hat, gloves, scarf are a must. The ice caves were cool and it looked like more ice carvings are being created for the future.

This ticket gives you access to the lifts up to the highest point which is the Glacier paradise viewing platform. It was beautiful up there but very cold- you will need extra layers. This was the main highlight of our day as well as the incredible views during the cable car travels.

I recommend going early so that you can use your ticket for the lifts all day long as it took approximately 1 hour to get from the bottom to the top.

The ‘cinema’ is a bit of a nothing and the ice cave was unattended (and fairly average) however we did enjoy our day overall.

Looking back, the initial customer service we received at the ticket booth was a little disappointing considering how much we enjoyed the rest of our day.

A little expensive- but certainly something you should do if you aren’t skiing or snowboarding and haven’t been up in the mountains!

On our second to last day in Zermatt, the top of the mountains opened again, however, it was still very windy. We jumped at the opportunity to visit the Glacier Paradise. What an experience! Having seen the lifts from down in the village, we knew they were high but really had no idea how vertical the climb was until we were on it. As we neared the top, the wind driven snow squalls made for quite an awe inspiring approach. It was so windy and cold at the top I could only stay on the outdoor observation deck for a couple minutes. Most people, including my wife, didn't even attempt it. After grabbing a snack and a nerve calming drink, we began to check out the ice sculptures which were very cool. However, 10 minutes in we were waved down by a park employee and told that the mountain was again closed and we had to head down. It was still about 90 minutes from normal closing time but I guess the winds had gotten too strong. As we boarded our car to head down, the attendant warned us that it would be a bumpy ride, but that we were safe. He was right. It was rough, due in no small part to the car stopping every two minutes and leaving us swinging in the wind a thousand feet up. Our car had eight people in it and there was no shortage of groans and/or nervous laughter as we swung in the wind just a few hundred feet from the top of the mountain, for what seemed like an eternity. Amazing view though.

This is a must do for anybody visiting Zermatt.

The trip to the top is spectacular with unforgettable views from the cable cars. There are not many staff directing you where to go, so you just need to follow the line of skiers on to the cable cars to the top.

The views from the viewing platform are amazing, but be warned - it is very cold. Wrap up warm with gloves and scarves etc. The air can be thin, so I’d advise to take your time. There is a cinema room with some really nice footage of Zermatt and the Matterhorn, and to warm up there’s a large cafe with hot food and drinks.

The only disappointment was having to spend 2CHF to use the bathroom. Considering the ticket price of the Glacier Experience, you would not expect to be charged for using the toilet. Perhaps this is something the management may consider looking at.

Overall, The Glacier Paradise is a great experience and a lovely way to spend a few hours. Wrap up warm!

Thank you very much for your visit! However, we ask for your understanding regarding the "toilet handling" at Restaurant Matterhorn glacier paradise. It is the highest restaurant in the Minergie-P standard and the toilets are equipped with a membrane bioreactor for the treatment and reuse of toilet waste water in a closed water circuit. This equipment at this location is very cost-intensive and we have therefore decided to charge for the use of the toilets - equal to highway service areas. Since we have a lot of visitors in the restaurant who do not consume and only want to use the toilet, the procedure was very strictly defined in the sense of the same treatment of all guests. All other toilets, f.e. at Trockener Steg are free of charge. So, we kindly ask you for your understanding and comprehension. We hope to see you again in our cosy Matterhorn village.

We went up and returned in the cable car. This is a must do experience if you are in Zermatt. We queued a while to buy our tickets, which were very expensive except we had bought a discount voucher for our rail travel which covered the cable car. My wife was a bit uncomfortable at the very top so we didn't stay very long. Unfortunately the top of the Matterhorn was obscured by cloud but everything else was very clear.

The cable cars are great. The views are magnificent. The service and attitudes of the staff are unbelievably rude! Waiting in queue for the restaurant, all the maintenance staff push past the 10 customers already waiting in front and the cook gladly spends the next 20 minutes making their lunch! When they all get fed, he looks back at the queue and starts serving the customers again. Probably the worst service experience in Europe we've had.

You feel like you are on the top of the world and the view is definitely worth taking the time to get up there. It is however sad that they have to charge 2 CHF to use the restrooms. It is not like you don’t pay enough and it left a sour taste in the mouth of many visitors. Do it right and be customer friendly.

This was the highlight of our trip and such an amazing experience. It takes around an 1 to get from Zermatt to the top of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise however, the entire trip is beautiful. We purchased the Swiss Half Fare pass (we were in Switzerland for 5 days) and it saved us so much money on this experience but also our entire time in Switzerland. Once at the to you can take an elevator to the viewing platform for 360 views, its unbelievably beautiful however a bit chilly even in July but no unbearable. You also have access to their ice cave and short film. There is also a restaurant however, as expected its pricy. Use of the bathroom is 2 francs, save your bathroom ticket it can be used as a 2 franc voucher at their restaurant so use the bathroom first then get food. They also have a small gift shop with souvenirs. We bought our passes the day of at the ticket office in Zermatt, be sure to get there early as the viewing platform can get crowded. Your time on the mountain is unlimited so enjoy all you want.

It takes three separate cable-cars to get up the 12,700 feet level, but wow it is worth it. The tickets can be a bit pricey, but they are reduced by 50% if you have a Swiss Pass. Try and do this on a clear day if possible. When you arrive at the top you walk through a drilled and blasted tunnel to the area with the restaurant, outside viewing platforms etc. Food costs in the restaurant are a bit high, but when else will you eat at this altitude without being on a plane, even if it’s only a drink and a snack? As well as the amazing views, they have excavated a tunnel into the adjacent glacier and you can walk through and view the ice sculptures - quite something!
