We went here on a rainy day, and it is a nice exhibition- with the interesting history of Sion and the surrounding area. An interesting museum, combined with the Valere Basilica made for an enjoyable morning. The museum has explanations in English and we joined a guided tour of the basilica. There are great views of Sion and Tourbillon Chateau. A limited but satisfying coffee shop on site.

This place is located high above Sion and gives a detailed history of the area and its importance in the history of Switzerland from 50,000BC to more modern times. The biggest focus being on the medieval era. I agree with the other reviews it is a labyrinth, the staff are very helpful and it's view across to Chateau Tourbillon and high above Sion makes it worth the climb.…

Housed inside the walls of an old fortified basilica this archeological (really more historical and archeological) museum was a great way to pass an hour and a half visiting Sion. The interior walks you through a variety of historical periods flthe region has experienced - from early human settlement through the bronze age, the Roman period and the layer medieval and modern eras. Beautifully maintained interiors and a well cared for collection of artifacts made this a worthwhile climb up the hill from town. …

Went with my to children up the hill to the castle and into the museum (for free with the Raiffeisen pass). The museum is a labyrinth o froom stracing the history of the castle, bishopric and town through history, with some wonderful artefacts, exhibits and stories. The staff are very helpful and the children received a Museum Passport. The café has a little terrace to enjoy the summer sun after emerging from the depths of the castle.…
