The "Cattedrale di San Lorenzo" is a Roman Catholic cathedral dedicated to Saint Lawrence. It was founded in the High Middle Ages but rebuilt in the late 15th century, with the façade completed in 1517. It is the seat of the Bishop of Lugano. The middle sector is the main portal and a large rose window with the decoration of cherubs executed after 1578. Between the portals, inside square frames, are busts of the Four Evangelists and of the Kings Solomon and David. The entablature frieze has 17 figures, including biblical characters and the Sibyls. The main portal of the Romanesque church is now moved to the sacristy.…

Cattedrale di San Lorenzo (in English: Cathedral of Saint Lawrence) is located in a high part of the city, giving you a great view. The style of the church is Roman and amazingly a church is known to this location as far back as year 818. It has obviously since then have many faces, becoming finally a cathedral in 1888 with great renovations that ended in 1910. The inside details are amazing, with dramatic frescoes and beautiful details on the ceilings. It’s not your most impressive Cathedral, but it’s very worth the visit, the view and the History.…
