We were staying in Chur, Switzerland and took the train to St. Moritz for a day trip. It was a gorgeous sunny day despite forecasts of thundershowers and cold coming in the next few days. The train ride is absolutely stunning throughout the hour and...More

This is quite a beautiful lake with clear blue waters and surrounded by green fields, small houses etc. It was great to see in off season buy it must be spectacular when the snow arrives

What an enchanting lake. It is hard to believe it freezes over. Stunning views from the shore and you can walk round it, would need a few hours.

We visited St Moritz in mid September and although it was not as warm as the shores of Lake Como where we were staying, it was ok for shorts and light shirts. Surprisingly we learned that at the same time last year the snow came,...More

When you are tired of doing your shopping on the wonderful cobbled streets, walk down to the lake and take a nice stroll around it! Beautiful walk that takes around an hour to go around!

Excellent views from Hotel Waldhaus Am See. Nice walks around the lake- little away from the town centre, but next to St Moritz train station. Picture perfect location for rest and relaxation. Visited early June.

Nice view especially on sunny days, the houses and mountains have shadows on the lake. You can't even distinguish the real one and shadow from photos.

Lake St Moritz (6 Replies)
I'm interested in the "village " that is on the frozen Lake St Moritz. Can anyone tell me what it is about?

Thank You Engadiner, 1. How thick is the ice? 2. When is the latest date when it's safe to be on the ice? 3. From the webcams that I see, there seems to be more snow this year than usual. Is this true? Thanks, Ron
Is the walking path around Lake St Moritz lit up at night? (2 Replies)
We'll be in staying in St Moritz overnight in late August. Is the Seerundweg (lake walk) around Lake St Moritz lit up at night?

No, it's lit up just the part along the road, the part on the opposite side in the forest is not lit up except sometimes if there are private parties at the Meierei Restaurant and the organizer lights torches. But there really is not much there to see and do at night, as you don't have the views walking in a forest at night. Check the moon cycle, with full moon and no clouds you might see enough.
Second Trip to Switzerland (5 Replies)
Hi all! We went to Wengen and the surrounding areas last year and LOVED it! Folks here (especially Kim, whose guide I can't say enough good things about!) were SO helpful. We are hoping to return to Switzerland the last week of May/first week of June, and we have a four year old (which obviously impacts hiking plans a bit). We would like to check out a new region or regions. We need to be in Zurich mid-week, so we have 4-5 days on the front end and 3 days on the back end, with Zurich in...More

Thank you so much for weighing in! I have been reading your reviews and advice in the Switzerland forum, and you're clearly an expert! We have nine nights in Switzerland at the end of the month, with work in zurich in the middle of our trip. I am considering flying into Geneva, then going to Zermatt for two nights (should we add a stop in and Grementz?), then staying two nights at Chez Bibene et Rene - it means doubling back, but they don't have openings otherwise. Is it worth it? Or...More
