Again not far from St M. Stunning views up here. You can stay here too. Easy to get to by train. Good walking too. We only came over to have a look using the free pass.

What an awe inspiring glacial slope. Beautiful pristine white snow everywhere around you. The powdery ankle deep kind. It also has Skiing facilities and we used a cable car to reach Diavolezza fromnthe railway station. This is so beautiful and words cannot describe this place.

Fantastic viewpoint! The Diavolezza - Morteratsch Glacier hike starts here. We went with the Bergsteigerschule Pontresina and it was definitely one of the most impressive hikes I've ever made.

Hard snow at the top and slush at the bottom made for a challenging ski with a teen who is normally able to do blacks. It was a sunny day and dehydration didn’t help. Make sure you take some water and take your time....there’s no...More

The Cable car starts from an facility about 50 mts away from the train station. The road leading to the cable car station is up a steep incline.

Sure there are spas open at this time of the year but better in neighbouring Pontresina or St Moritz: Diavolezza is really just a mountain lift and not even a village. Nothng else.

2 nights stay in St. Moritz before Zermatt- Need Suggestions (21 Replies)
We will be visiting St. Moritz in the end of January and stayed for 2 nights before catching Glacier Express to Zermatt. Will arrive Zurich airport in the morning of Day 1 and coming to St. Moritz by train. Can someone suggest a place to stay for 2 nights? Should we stayed near St. Moritz train station so it's easy to get around? For the next day, is there anything we shouldn't miss while in St. Moritz. I understand that it will be very cold end of Jan, so will it still be a good idea to...More

In October when we went to St Moritz I took Engadiner's advice and stayed at the Margna hotel in Sils Baseglia. this (Sils) is a small, beautiful village between two lakes. About a 20min postbus ride from the St Moritz station. She said that if she were a tourist in the engadine this is where she would stay. Knowing her and trusting her advice, we went there... and WOW! what a hotel. We abolsutely loved it. Great welcome, superb service, beautiful hotel and really really good food. I don't...More

Suggestions for 2 days in Engadin region (3 Replies)
We are planning to take the Milan-St Mortiz train on 5/22/2013, stopping by Poschiavo for a couple hours or so, then spend two nights in Engadin region before heading to Zurich airport for hotel final night. Where would be a good base for two nights? We are looking at St Mortiz. The prices are steep! Price-wise, Is it a good idea to wait until we are there to book? We are mainly interested in good scenery (maybe a panoramic view from a high point), cute town/village, and some hiking (2-3...More

It would help enormously to know when you plan to do this, as an answer depends much on the season you will visit in. No point in writing you all the winter recommendations if then you will be here in summer or vv

Diavolezza & Trains (6 Replies)
Hi there, Thank you to all the great answers to questions that have been invaluable in planning my trip to Switzerland next week. I have a few questions that I’m sure have been answered in the past but I’m having a hard time finding: 1) When planning mountain excursions could I decide the night before I plan to go based on the weather or should I wait until the morning? I have added a couple weather apps on my phone: MeteoSwiss & Engadin Mountains. For example: I am planning to go...More

With the Swiss Meato App you should be able to get accurate weather forecast the night before. The station Bernina Diavolezza is a 2request stop" There is a button next to every door, unusually red, push this to get the train to stop, but if the weather is good, it is very likely others will want to get off too. As for stopping the train, on the platform their will be a small box with 2 buttons on, one for each direction. This usually has a picturegram of a man waving at the train and...More
