A Cathedral and a movie
Jan 2020
The Roman church is impressive; it contains very interesting ancient paintings and beautiful pieces of work, two splendid altars from the fifteenth century (one at the end of the wooden choir and the other inside the church crypt). But I would like to tell about a sort of curiosity; on the inner wall on the left side of the main entrance door you will read a name, "Jürg Jenatsch", and on the opposite corner (to the right) you can see the blazon of a noble family, Von Plantas. These two elements have inspired a fantasy movie by Daniel Schmid ("Jenatsch"), whose main character crosses the border between present and past while visiting this region. The movie deserves to be seen if you get the chance to find a DVD in some library!

Chur Cathedral

Up a hill but the No. 9 bus from the railway station takes you right there. There was a lady inside, tidying up she spoke no English but I just showed her my camera and she smiled and nodded. The restriction is during services I think. Beautiful ceiling and wall paintings, also the crypt visible beneath the altar. Well worth the visit.

Nice older church at top of hill, walking through the beautiful old town to the church is the best part of the trip.

Not very exciting
Feb 2019 • Couples
We had climbed all the way through the town in order to visit this cathedral but were rather disappointed. It is a fairly basic Catholic church, with the most interesting feature being the undercroft below the High Altar. Also, we were very unsure about photography. Most similar places ban flash photography, but this one seemed to totally ban all photographs. Not speaking German, we were very unsure of the position.

St. Maria Himmelfahrt Cathedral
Sep 2018
The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption in German: Kathedrale St. Mariä Himmelfahrt is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic diocese of Chur , this is a place of worship and is well worth a visit a little of the main drag but easy find it behind some back streets.

A very nice cathedral in the high part of Chur

The stroll up to reach this cathedral is very lovely and picturesque and this place of worship is situated in the walled part of the upper city. The Cathedral is in general quite austere but peaceful with very nice interior. Really worth the exercise

Nice Cathedral
Feb 2018 • Couples
The Cathedral is nice and stands overlooking the old city. It is nicely decorated and some woodcarvings are very nice.

Beautiful Cathedral
Oct 2017 • Family
This is a lovely and much simpler Cathedral than normally found. It has been somewhat modernised but in my view extremely sympathetically handled. Its a truly beautiful building and extremely peaceful as you would expect with some interesting Fresco work and more modern attachments. Well worth a walk around as is the small and beautifully kept cemetery at the rear of it.

Magnificent place of Worship
Jul 2017 • Couples
Step into this building and travel back to 452AD through the reign of Charlemagne and 1152-1272 which is when some of the glorious stained glass dates back to. Our only disappointment was the lack of a leaflet in English ,however our combination of German and gestures allowed some discussion with the stewards.

Worth climbing the hill to see
Oct 2016 • Solo
The cathedral lies at the top of the hill on the edge of the old town, lots of steps, or a long walk around them are needed, but worth it to see the cathedral square and look at the cathedral itself. After seeing lots of churches, once could think they al looked alike, but somehow, they all have their own unique points. This one had several beautiful side chapels, with ornately decorated altar pieces, some inspiring stained glass, plus it was quite obviously a working church. NIce.
