First built in 1478 with remnants of the original church tower (stuck by lightning in 1682 and left unrestored) still a dominant feature of this landmark. Worth finding out the opening hours before visiting (entry is free with any donations voluntary). Wonderful historic landmark, with lovely surroundings and views , well worth a visit.

We finally got into this church not too far from our Hotel Chesa Rosatsch in Celerina. It's only open 2-4pm 3 days per week. It had an interesting painted wooden ceiling, plus mural-type paintings on the walls. We didn't really learn about the origin or history of these. We were immediately approached by a woman who said no photos were allowed. This made us angry and my husband started pushing back. This is ridiculous because she could not give one reason for it. We have found this in other places in Europe, and are always suspicious of the real motives. Alot of times the "no photo" rules aren't even enforced. Anyway, we left with a bad opinion. We did find the little cemetery around the church quite beautiful. The gravestones were so interesting--some were rough rocks with the metal lettering affixed to the uneven surface. Plus, the flowers and plantings were lovely and well-tended.
