A very interesting and must visit location while in Meiringen village. The views are fantastic and the panoramic view in the end is mesmerizing. It’s a total of 40 min walk one way. There are lighting arrangements at strategic points, which adds to the beauty. A kids play park is there at the entrance, good to engage little ones while adults can relax after the long walk.

Tips: At either end of the entrance to the gorge there are train stations; for people who do not wish to return by walk can catch the train back. Train ticket cost is covered in the entrance ticket,
Also recommended is to combine the visit along with Reichenbachfalls.

Magnificent view and experience. Great activity with kids. The beauty of the rock formation is a humbling experience of how nature just takes it course and create such a magnificent formations. We went on a Sunday afternoon august 2021 and the number of visitors is low. Restaurant is not as good so I suggest to eat before starting the trek especially with young teens.

an impressive gorge to walk through, between the railway stations east and west of the gorge. a funny little railway anyway, with a total length of 11 minutes. for the lazy bones, you can also go straight to the stop at the east end of the gorge and look out from the platform there.

You can do this on a rainy or a sunny day, because it gets wet anyway. You can enter either in the west (the caves) or you can enter in the east. Your ticket includes a one-way trip back to where you started with the train. It’s really impressive, especially the west part. The paths are good and safe.

After arriving in Meiringen, the weather was a bit inclement so we didn't feel like venture too far and headed to the Aaere Gorge, about 20 min by walk from town.
We paid 10 chf for the entry ticket and headed inside.
The walkway is rather stunning, and overall it's a pleasant adventure.
We reached the other side of the Gorge and then retraced our steps and walked again to Meiringen.
There were a few interesting inscriptions with facts about the gorge, a waterfall and not much else, but given the lack of attractions in the proximity of Meiringen this is a decent attraction.

The walk is approximately 1.4 kms. a good 45 to 55 mins walk. But with frequent photo op stops it may take longer. The walk is easy and not exhausting. The views are magnificent and you might take time to stop at certain areas to take in the sights and fresh breeze from the mountains. A must see in the area.

Don't be fooled by the leaflet that shows a walkway with a bench (we counted two). The leaflet says its an easy walk but warns that wheelchairs can only access a section. We travelled to the station where there is a snack bar, the are a lot of steps up to access the first level to pay. Then there are a lot of steps down towards the bottom of the gorge, some of the boards are loose. Eventually there is a flat section through to the end. Be aware that the walkways are narrow and passing people going in the other direction can be difficult.

The Gorge is beautiful particularly the end with the colours.

I arrived at the other end of the gorge struggling to walk, the toilets were very clean and the restaurant and shop looks nice but to tired to try them. Then found it was a long walk (for someone struggling with knee pain) back to the railway station.

It would have been helpful if the leaflet gave more details.

We set off in the morning, and we were almost alone here. Beautiful and thanks to the sidewalk easy walk, accessible to all ages and in any weather. It's a unique experience that's worth it.
Along the way, there are breathtaking views of the beautiful and wild nature. I highly recommend.

Do not go there. It is not safe coronwise! Too many people. Access should be limited and directed only one way. No safety mesures are taken. We returned achter 15 minutes. A very expensive and frustreating walk.

We loved the canyon, it’s beautiful, for us a dream come true, also inexpensive .
If you visit this area in Switzerland you must see this. The only problem we encountered was the lady at the reception, she is not happy with her job and did not answer any of our simple questions regarding the canyon ( she said “no clue” for everything)
