About
At an altitude of over 4,000 feet, Harder Kulm boasts splendid views of Interlaken, Eiger Monch, Jungfrau, Thun, and Lake Brienz on a clear day. From Interlaken Ost train station, take a 5-minute stroll to the funicular which will bring you up the mountain in a cabin with a glass ceiling and at a 64% incline. At the top, venture onto the overhanging Two Lakes Bridge, and make a reservation at the restaurant for authentic Swiss fare.
A popular route would be to take the funicular up and hike three miles back to Interlaken. The funicular typically only operates from April to November.

- NirmalBengaluru, India105 contributionsSunset at top of Interlaken! The steep climb up in the funicular is an experience in itself. Once on the top you will be welcomed by mesmerising views of both the lakes, Thun and Brienz. The cheese fondue at the restaurant during sunset is not to me missed. The ticket price is partly covered by Swiss travel pass.Visited April 2023Traveled with familyWritten April 28, 2023
- joumina17165 contributionsAmazing !Wow ! we took a funicular to the top of interlaken and then walked a bit to reach Harder Kulm, The view was stunning! we could see lakes, mountains and peeks with snow. Amazing! A must do when you are in Interlaken.Visited April 2023Written May 2, 2023
- Ashutosh K3 contributionsNot as popular as Jungfrau but worth visiting.Nice place to visit especially in good weather when you can enjoy wonderful views of Interlaken and the lakes. It is a steep 8 minute ride in a funicular train. The base train station is called Harder Bahn and is a 5 mins walk from Interlaken Ost station. Once you reach the station at the top, from there, it is about 5 mins walking to the view points. There is also a lovely restaurant and I would recommend visiting it for its food and friendly staff. The food itself is reasonably priced and has quite a few options including for vegetarians. Before or after your meal, do spend some time taking lovely pictures, especially on a clear sunny day when there would be so much to see. If you have Swiss Rail/ Travel Pass, this funicular train ride is free. But you will need to show your pass at the Harder Bahn ticketing office when they will give you the actual travel tickets for the ride up to Harder Kulm and back.Thank you for taking the time to share your fantastic experience at Harder Kulm - Top of Interlaken! - SeeitalldoitallLas Vegas, Nevada120 contributionsNot worth itThe views are wonderful but the funicular experience was terrible 😡 At $40 each for the ride up was not worth the frustration. The staff was rude and seemed to hate their jobs. Too many people crammed into the tram which was claustrophobic at best. The ride to the top took 10 or so minutes. The restaurant advertises a “folk show” which was only for private booked parties. They did have a trio of musicians playing accordion and bass that were good. The food was just okay and overpriced. The queue to return was so long. We waited in line for 45 minutes just to have a large Asian group jump in front of us and took our place on the next tram down. People were furious and complaining but the staff just let them thru without explanation or apologies. If it weren’t for the views, it would have been a waste of money!Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're glad to hear that you found the views wonderful. While we apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during the funicular ride, we appreciate your input and will use it to improve the overall visitor experience. We understand your disappointment with the queueing situation, and we will take your comments into consideration to enhance our offerings. - Lynn H1 contributionDon’t pass through interlakenWhat a wonderful place. Stayed in Metropole hotel which overlooked jungfrau and in front was park where all hang gliders landed. Didn’t do usual harder Klum restaurant did Helmwehfluh restaurant which has cogwheel car up to it - or you can drive. Wonderful views and meal. Then there’s an outdoor adventure park up there for teenagers or everyone. Alphorn player in the street just topped it off. Close totrummelbach falls and many other wonderful places - sigriswill, Lake Thun etc. Don’t pass by interlaken.Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 6, 2023

- Arthur MHamilton, Canada1,038 contributionsHour-long lineup to get up, another hour-long line up to get down. Spent only 5 to 10 minutes at the viewing deck. While this funicular has a very interesting ride and pretty thrilling ascent, the lineup to ride took two roundtrips before I was able to get on. Same thing with coming down. The views are indeed spectacular, but my time at the top only took like 5 to 10 minutes. There's nothing much else to do at the top other than do strenuous hikes, which is not of my interest, or to eat, which is pretty expensive to begin with. If the lineup is already an hour-long at midday, what more during the sunset? If you're short on time or if you're pressed in scheduling in the Jungrfau region, I would let go of Harder Kulm first.Thank you for visiting and sharing your feedback. We recommend visiting Harder Kulm - Top of Interlaken directly from Interlaken to enjoy the beautiful scenery ! The view was great.
The complaint I have concerns the staff in the kiosk. Very rude and abrupt. Growled at customers when asking that they pay with cash. Surely is not correct to force people into this option. But, having paid 5CH for a bottle of Sprite, I later learned that another customer was charged 6CH. So, where is the extra money going?
I asked about the price and was met by an extremely woman (staff) Soryy, but I ended up telling her that tourists are the ones who keep her in a job. She sarcastically said ‘yeah’ then went on to agree that they treated tourists badly. Again, more sarcasm.
Both her and the male staffer, needs to be spoken to. Ideally, moved away to a post where they aren’t required to deal with customers. But, their couldn’t care less, smug attitude tells me they have gotten away with this before.
A nice day was ruined by these people. Also, I’d still like to know what they did with the extra they took from visitors. Disgusting.

Harder Kulm is a nice 2.5 hour hike to the top of Interlaken. There are two main trails with small branches and shortcuts that you might find along the way. During the winter the cable car is not functioning, and the restaurant at the top is not open. So give yourself 5 hours for the round-trip and do both trails. It's a great way to start your day, take in some fresh air, and get a beautiful overview of Interlaken!

Fly in the clouds .... this is kind of experience which comes true with what we call as Harder Kulm . It is also known as top of interlaken and it is a must visit . The funicular which takes to the top is an experience in itself . There are queues but considering the service they provide a little wait is worth it . We went there around 5pm and were able to ride on funicular within 30min of waiting . Once on top it is like 10-15 min walk to the view point from where the Jungfrau peak can be seen . The view of valley , snow peak mountains , sunset and clouds . It was spectacular. A little chilly but one of the most romantic places in world .

BEWARE! I’m sure most of you are accustomed to keeping your train ticket with you after boarding as you may need it once you disembark the train to be allowed out of the train station. This was not my experience in most Swiss train stations but it is the case here. If you misplace your ticket (or your phone dies etc) after riding up in the Harderbaun you will need to pay again to be allowed to go down, otherwise you will be forced to walk down. This is assumed and therefore no heads up is given about this. I assume people walk up to Harder Kulm and can try to board the Harderbaun to go down, which I was unaware of before my phone died and my e-ticket was thus unavailable. I was thus essentially trapped on the mountain. Probably a rare occurrence. The Harderbaun operator was unnecessarily condescending and unhelpful about the situation as you can imagine with ticket checkers. I was able to return later with my e-ticket to get the extra ticket refunded (out of principle) so I’m thankful for that. Otherwise you should enjoy the visit in a clear day, except for being packed like sardines in the carriage. I just hope this saves some of you from unnecessary headache. Cheers

What can I say? The Harder Kulm is just incredible and offers the most amazing view of Interlaken. We spoke to a man at the bottom, who explained that the train only runs two months of the year and that the only way to get to the top would be to walk up which takes around two and a half hours. In a pair of boots, a jumper and a handbag, I wasn't equipped to say the least, so do your research before giving it a go. Needless to say, had we had the proper clothing and equipment, it would have been a lot easier to ascend, but nonetheless we enjoyed every minute - although it really does show you how out of shape you actually are! Getting to the top felt like a massive achievement and it was worth every moment - I wish we could do it all over again (although this time with better footwear as a week later I still have sore feet.)

Two issues, the fondue at the restaurant everyone raves about is Uber over priced and lacking in flavor. Views are great but to get down is a real sh!t show. Ultra long line formed and some people collapsed the line. Is appears some cultures don’t respect the long ass line and distinguished themselves as special and just went to the front creating some chaos. took us over 1.5 to get down and we were near the front of the pack. Skip this for something else.

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the disappointment you experienced with the fondue at our restaurant. If Interlaken had a king, he would reside on the Harder Kulm. From the viewing platform at 1,322 metres above sea level he would graciously look down upon Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, or admire the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. In fact, the Harder Kulm Panorama Restaurant is reminiscent of a castle. In order to visit it, however, you don't need to be a king – just take a seat in the cable car and ascend Interlaken's own mountain.

The views were beautiful from the top, but the only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 was the crown control. The waiting room the ride the funicular was extremely crowded and somewhat chaotic with little ventilation. The ride up and back was extremely packed with no ventilation.

How do you get a swiss pass?
You can either buy it online(sbb.ch) or at any kiosk at the train stations/airports. I would recommend going to a SBB outlet and getting their suggestions depending on your itinerary.

The train leaves early in the morning if you want to spend reasonable time in the top of Jungfrau.
Recommend buying tickets at least the day before, just checking the weather forecast.
For Harder Kulm, no need to buy tickets in advance as it is close to Interlaken, you can get the tickets as & when you decide to go. Easy.
Jungfrau is 3 trains to get there & buying tickets ahead of time essential if you want to guarantee going on a certain day. This is a very popular trip. Still very worth doing, a real highlight.
Hi, I have a doubt, after that I need to shop some tickets for return Interlaken?

sorry - I didn't understand your question completely - but if you are asking whether you need to buy separate tickets for return? well - you can buy to and fro tickets at the base when you board the furnicular to interlaken to harder klum. You also have the option to buy a one way ticket - you can either hike up or down or both ways - it takes about 1 : 45 mins usually for a hike up!
